Out to Explore, Zen Yoga

Out to Explore, Zen Yoga A gentle approach to yoga combining elements of Taoist & Hatha Yoga with Qigong, mindfulness & love. Zen Yoga is a life enhancing exploration. Quite literally!

Based in Zakynthos, Greece the Zen Yoga Studio is part of Out to Explore, organising alternative holidays on this stunning island. We have a core schedule of classes in the studio and we take our practice out to wonderful locations all over the island too. A journey that can start at any point in your life and will continuously improve your life and your world. It is a gentle exploration rather th

an a painful journey to destination 'I've got my leg behind my head'! The journey never ends, and every step of the journey is different and glorious in its own right.I will guide you through a safe practice that will become the foundation of your new balanced life. Individual or group practice is your choice. The best way to discover the benefits is to give it a go. You will find the combination of stretching and deep breathing will do wonders for your physical well-being. You'll find too that mindful practice can have all sorts of benefits; reducing stress, improving mental clarity, inner peace and serenity, greater vitality and increased quality of life. What is mindfulness? In Japanese calligraphy, the symbol for mindfulness is called 'Nen'. If translated directly the top half of the character represents 'now' and the bottom half represents 'heart or mind'. Mindfulness is simply the presence of a calm, alert, open, curious steady but flexible and deliberate but judgement free attention to the action of the present moment. Sounds a bit weird, doesn't it? Once you get the hang of it you'll never look back.

👣 The Zen Seasons – Week 6 is here: Footprints in the Sand 🌊

As summer reaches its full warmth, emotions and passions can sometimes feel just as intense as the sun.

This week's meditation invites us to slow down beside the sea and remember something simple:

Nothing lasts forever.

We walk along the shoreline, leaving footprints behind us. For a moment, they seem permanent. Then the tide arrives, gently washing them away.

Not because they were unimportant...

but because nature is always making space for what comes next.

Our Zen wisdom this week is Mujo (無常) — the understanding of impermanence.

Our feelings change.
Our circumstances change.
The hottest days eventually cool.
The strongest waves eventually become calm.

We don't always need to fight change or hold onto what is passing.

Sometimes we can simply breathe...

and trust the tide. 🌊

✨ Footprints in the Sand includes gentle breath awareness, full body relaxation, a peaceful summer shoreline visualisation, Zen reflection and a five-minute crystal bowl sound bath to help you settle into deep rest and peaceful sleep.

🎧 Week 6 of The Zen Seasons is now available on YouTube.

Come and walk with me beside the sea...

and perhaps leave a few things behind with the tide.

Hi everyone 🌞

Just a little update to our Summer schedule.

Over the past few weeks, the Friday morning Energising Zen Yoga class has been very quiet, so I've decided to pause this class until early September.

The summer months often bring changing routines, holidays and the wonderful temptation to spend more time outdoors, so this feels like the right time to make a small adjustment.

Rather than continuing a class with very low attendance, I'm going to use these Friday mornings to develop some new ideas and projects that I've had waiting in the wings for a while. I'm really excited to see where they lead, and I look forward to sharing them with you soon.

All of our other classes continue as usual, and I can't wait to see you on the mat.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. It means so much, and I'm looking forward to welcoming the Friday morning class back in early September.

With love,
Barbara 🙏

Waves of Breath, Hearts in Harmony 🌊
There is something quietly beautiful about moving together.

As the sun rose over the sea this morning, we explored the gentle symmetry of movement and breath in pairs. Like the rhythm of the waves, our breath carried us into a shared flow—giving, receiving, supporting and trusting.

As our bodies opened, so did our hearts. We were reminded that connection doesn’t always need words. Sometimes it is found in a shared inhale, a steady exhale, a helping hand, or simply moving in harmony with another person.

The sea has always been a wonderful teacher. Every wave returns to the shore in balance, never forcing, never resisting. Our practice invites us to do the same—to soften, to open, and to remember that we are all connected.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed the morning with such openness and kindness. 🌊☀️🙏

🎋 The Zen Seasons – Week 4: The Cicadas' Song 🎋

The next chapter of our Zen Seasons journey is now available on YouTube.

The Cicadas' Song invites us to discover something that Zen has taught for centuries—that stillness is not found by escaping the sounds of life, but by learning to rest peacefully within them.

On a warm summer's day, the song of the cicadas fills the air. Some hear only noise. Others hear the rhythm of the season itself. Perhaps the difference lies not in what we hear, but in how we listen.

Inspired by the Zen principle of Nari Kiru—to become fully what you are—this gentle practice combines mindful movement, seasonal awareness and quiet reflection, encouraging us to embrace the fullness of summer just as it is.

If you're longing for a little space to slow down, reconnect and simply be, I'd love you to join me.

🎥 Watch now on YouTube, and if you're enjoying the series, don't forget to subscribe so you won't miss the next chapter.

May your week be filled with moments of stillness... even amidst life's constant song. 🌿

After a long hot day it’s time to stretch and ease ourselves into the cooler evening. Tonight’s focus was upper back and shoulders. We took a slightly longer final relaxation to really encourage the body and mind to ease into a good nights sleep.
