Professional Nursing Hybrid Training Programme celebrates Graduation of First Cohort

A total of 669 nursing students yesterday graduated as the first cohort of the Ministry of Health's Professional Nursing Hybrid Training Programme, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of nursing education and healthcare delivery in Guyana.

The three-year programme was designed to provide aspiring nurses with a flexible, competency-based learning experience through a blended approach that combines online theoretical instruction with face-to-face practical and clinical training. The programme equips graduates with the knowledge, clinical skills, and professional competencies required to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centred care across the country's health system.

Delivering the keynote address, Minister of Health, Honourable Dr. Frank Anthony, urged the graduates to strive for excellence in the nursing profession, reminding them that compassion and humanity must remain at the heart of the care they provide.

He encouraged the new nurses to be dependable, humble, and committed to serving patients with professionalism and empathy. The Minister also challenged the graduates to embrace innovation and continuous learning to enhance the quality of healthcare delivery, while never losing sight of their calling and purpose as nurses.

Reflecting on the significance of the occasion, Dr. Anthony described the graduation as a testament to the transformation taking place within Guyana's healthcare and education sectors.

"Today, this graduation is about the transformation that is happening in our country. It is our desire that you will be the first to demonstrate that high-quality nursing education can reach every corner of our country," Dr. Anthony emphasised.

The Minister further noted that the graduates have permanently changed the landscape of nursing education in Guyana by proving that the hybrid training model is both effective and accessible.

"Future generations will benefit because you have proven that this model works. This model works, and that's why so many of you are here today," he said.

The graduation reflects the Ministry's continued commitment to strengthening the nursing workforce, expanding access to quality training, and ensuring that healthcare professionals are prepared to meet the evolving needs of Guyana's growing population.
