We are delighted to welcome Professor Xiao-Jing Wang as Chair Professor, jointly appointed by the School of Computing and Data Science and the School of Biomedical Sciences at HKU.

A world-renowned computational neuroscientist joining us from NYU, Prof. Wang is internationally recognised for pioneering neural circuit models of the prefrontal cortex and helping to shape the field of computational psychiatry.

His expertise at the intersection of neuroscience and artificial intelligence will significantly advance SBMS's research capabilities in brain-inspired AI and biomedical innovation. 🧠🔬

The Croucher Neuropixels Symposium and Workshop will be held at HKUMed from 28–30 September 2026.
This event will bring together leading researchers to share the latest developments in Neuropixels technology, which is transforming how we study brain activity and neural circuits.

That's a wrap on the 5th HKU Biomedical Sciences Summer Academy! For five action-packed days, 50 secondary students stepped into School of Biomedical Science to see firsthand how biomedical research solves real-world health challenges. From hands-on laboratory sessions and interactive lectures to team presentations, our participants got a true taste of life at the forefront of science.

Last week wrapped up the 5th HKU Biomedical Sciences Summer Academy, welcoming 50 secondary-school students from 10 schools across Hong Kong for a week of exploration at HKUMed.

📰 From classroom learning to real-world discovery

A recent Greater Bay Area study tour gave HKU BBiomedSc and MBBS students the opportunity to visit leading pharmaceutical companies, research laboratories and innovation hubs, gaining first-hand insights into the region's rapidly evolving biomedical industry💊.

🧑🏻‍🔬Reflecting on the experience, SBMS Year 3 student Vincy Tai shared:

"The company visits were eye-opening and gave me valuable insights into how the biomedical industry works in real-life settings. They reinforced my aspiration to pursue a career in the field. Building on the experiential learning opportunities and internship programme offered by HKUMed, the tour inspired me to continue seeking learning opportunities beyond the classroom."

✨The five-day tour enabled students to broaden their career perspectives, connect academic knowledge with industry practice, and explore opportunities for future collaboration and innovation across the Greater Bay Area.
