💡 什麼是寵物淋巴瘤？
淋巴細胞是免疫系統的重要防線，遍布全身的淋巴結、脾臟、肝臟及骨髓。當這些細胞發生惡性病變時，就會形成淋巴瘤。
牠可以發生在全身任何部位，最常見的類型包括：

While brushing or petting your furry friend, did you suddenly feel a firm lump? Take extra note! This could be one of the most common malignant cancers in dogs and cats: Lymphoma!
💡 What is Pet Lymphoma?
Lymphocytes are a key part of the immune system, located throughout lymph nodes, the spleen, liver, and bone marrow. When these cells become cancerous, they form lymphoma.
It can develop anywhere in the body, with the most common types including:
🩺 Multicentric：
Most common in dogs, causing simultaneous swelling of external lymph nodes (e.g., neck, armpits, submandibular, popliteal) across the body.
🩺 Gastrointestinal：
Most common in cats, affecting the digestive tract and leading to vomiting, diarrhea, and severe weight loss.
🩺 Mediastinal & Extranodal：
Affecting the chest cavity or specific organs like the skin, eyes, or nervous system.

骨肉瘤（Osteosarcoma）：大型犬隻必須提防的骨骼殺手
骨肉瘤（Osteosarcoma）是一種源自「成骨細胞」（即負責製造骨骼的細胞）的惡性腫瘤。雖然此疾病主要侵襲骨骼，但在少數情況下，亦有機會出現在乳房、甲狀腺或其他內臟器官等骨骼以外的組織（稱為骨外骨肉瘤）。
腫瘤科專科獸醫 Dr. Antonio Giuliano 分享，骨肉瘤是大型及巨型犬種非常常見的腫瘤，但在小型犬和貓隻身上則較為罕見。

常見發病位置
骨肉瘤通常出現在四肢；相比之下，頭骨、骨盆（盆骨）或脊椎等扁平骨骼受影響的機會則較低。雖然此癌症大多成發於老年犬，但偶爾亦會在年輕犬隻身上發現。
⚠️ 臨床症狀與診斷方法
患犬通常會出現腳部腫脹及疼痛，進而導致跛行。由於犬隻大腿等部分覆蓋著厚實的肌肉，主人往往很難在初期察覺到腫塊，但獸醫透過臨床觸診便能輕易發現。
📌 何時需要提高警覺？
當步入老年的大型犬出現持續性跛行，且在充分休息及服用止痛藥後仍毫無改善，便應懷疑患上骨肉瘤。

🩺 獸醫診斷程序：
X 光檢查（Radiography）：通常單憑受影響肢體的 X 光片，就已經能對骨肉瘤呈現高度的確診提示。
細胞或組織活檢（Biopsy）：獸醫會透過針吸細胞檢查或抽取組織樣本進行活檢，以作出最終的病理學診斷。

🚨 具高度侵略性的致命危機
骨肉瘤是一種侵略性極高的惡性腫瘤，極易擴散至身體其他組織。其中，肺部是最常見的癌症轉移部位。遺憾的是，大多數患有骨肉瘤的動物，最終都是因為癌細胞轉移擴散而死亡。
雖然骨肉瘤十分嚴重，但若能及早診斷並妥善治療，許多狗隻仍可延長壽命並提升生活品質。
Osteosarcoma is a type of cancer that arises from cells called osteoblast, the cells that built the bone. It affects the bones but can rarely be found in other body tissues like the breast, thyroid, or other organs (extra skeletal osteosarcoma).

Specialist in Veterinary Oncology, Dr. Antonio Giuliano shares that it is a common tumour of large and giant breed dogs and rarely affects small dogs and cats.
Osteosarcoma usually appears in the limbs, while the flat bones of the head, hip or spine are more rarely affected. Dogs tend to develop this type of cancer when they are old, but young dogs occasionally develop osteosarcoma.

Dogs usually present with a painful swelling on the leg that cause lameness. The swelling in the leg is often not noticed by the owner as some portions of the leg are covered by large muscles but can be found more easily by a veterinarian.
Osteosarcoma should be suspected when a large-breed old-age dog presents with a progressive lameness that does not respond to rest and painkillers.

Final diagnosis can be achieved by a needle sample or tissue sample by biopsy, but often just radiography of the affected leg is highly suggestive of osteosarcoma. Osteosarcoma is an aggressive disease with a high chance of spreading to other tissues in the body. The most common site of metastasis is the lung, and most dogs will die due to metastasis.

Although osteosarcoma is serious, early diagnosis and proper treatment can help many dogs live longer and more comfortably.

假設動物患者正在接受化療程序（例如治療癌症），像是貓狗當中都非常普遍的「淋巴瘤」： 為什麼每次治療前都必須重新驗血呢？這非常重要，主要是出於安全考量。化療必須依照動物患者的情況量身定制。

其實，每次重複驗血是非常、非常重要的，這主要是為了安全起見。因為我們希望化療是為每隻動物「量身定制」的。也就是說，我們想給予最精準的藥物劑量，既能殺死癌細胞，又不會對患者造成嚴重的副作用。
為了做到這點，我們必須根據每隻動物的狀況來調整劑量。每隻動物的體質都大不相同：有些狗可以承受雙倍的劑量，而有些狗卻只能承受一半的劑量。因此，為患者量身定制藥物劑量是至關重要的。

通常，我們會結合幾種方法來評估：

1. 臨床檢查： 看看動物當下的身體狀況。

2. 主人提供的病史： 了解牠們在家裡的表現，例如：有沒有胃口？進食情況如何？精神狀態怎麼樣？生活品質好不好？

3. 驗血報告： 我們需要透過血液指標，來確認藥物有沒有帶來任何毒性副作用或併發症。

在多數情況下，我們最常關注的是嗜中性白血球減少症（Neutropenia），當然也會根據所使用的藥物種類，去監測其他不同的指數。

總括而言，我們想知道牠們的白血球（特別是嗜中性白血球）是否處於正常範圍，還是稍微偏低。白血球數量因化療而稍微下降是常見且符合預期的，但我們絕對不能讓它降得太低。我們的目標是有效攻擊癌症，又不會為動物身體帶來嚴重的副作用。而為了做到這點，我們必須每次都驗血，密切監測這幾項關鍵指標。

🐾 14歲玩具貴婦狗 DiDi 戰勝高惡性肥大細胞瘤

在動物腫瘤科的領域中，我們經常面臨許多艱巨的挑戰；但對我們而言，最大的喜悅莫過於見證動物真正的勇氣與康復的奇蹟。今天，我們要為一位非常特別的小勇士慶祝： 14 歲的玩具貴婦狗 —— DiDi。

今年 1 月，主人發現 DiDi 的左腋下出現了一個腫塊。經過一系列詳盡的專業評估後，不幸確診為高分級皮膚肥大細胞瘤（High-grade Mast Cell Tumor, 簡稱 MCT）。

🏥 腫瘤科專科精準制定：外科手術與化療方案面對高惡性腫瘤的威脅，我們的腫瘤科專科獸醫 Dr. Antonio Giuliano 深入評估後，建議先進行外科手術切除，隨後配合完整的化療療程。

In oncology, we often face difficult challenges, but our greatest joy comes from witnessing true courage and the gift of recovery. Today, we want to celebrate a very special little fighter: DiDi, a 14-year-old Toy Poodle.

Back in January, a mass was discovered in DiDi’s left axilla. After a thorough assessment, it was diagnosed as a high-grade Mast Cell Tumor (MCT).
Our Specialist in Veterinary Oncology, Dr. Antonio Giuliano, recommended surgical excision followed by chemotherapy as the most effective path forward.

DiDi tolerated the surgery and all the course of chemotherapy very well with no side effects or complications.

DiDi is still cancer free, back to being its happy, energetic self with no concerns at all.
