Here we are on the last day of National Breastfeeding Awareness Month - but the support doesn’t end here. 💛

This month, we talked about the first latch, extended breastfeeding across cultures, family planning while nursing, workplace rights, mastitis pain that shouldn’t be endured in silence, tandem nursing, Dad’s role, and the right to breastfeed anywhere.

To every mom who read, commented, and shared this month - thank you. Simply showing up to learn and ask for help is already a big deal for your child.🫶

You checked their temperature 5 times today, packed 3 baon this week, answered 47 "why" questions, and you're STILL telling yourself you're "not doing enough"? Stop. 💛

The mental load of parenting is real and it is HEAVY - remembering appointments, tracking growth milestones, knowing which snack is "safe" today, worrying quietly at 2am about things no one else even notices you're carrying.

You are not failing. You are doing an enormous, invisible job - and doing it with love, even on the days it feels impossible.

This Sunday, permission granted: rest without guilt. The dishes can wait. You cannot pour from empty. 💛

Filipino, English, or both? The truth about bilingual babies 🗣️🇵🇭

It's Buwan ng Wika - the perfect time to address a concern I hear often: "Doc, will my child's speech be delayed because they're hearing two languages?"

Good news: that's NOT true. 💛

Children exposed to two or more languages - Filipino, English, or even a regional dialect - are NOT delayed because of it. What actually happens is "code-switching": they'll use whichever word from either language they understand best at that moment. That's normal, not confusion.

The real red flags for speech delay (regardless of how many languages are spoken at home):
🚩 No single words yet by 15-18 months
🚩 Not responding to their name by 12 months
🚩 No 2-word phrases yet by 2 years old

So my answer is always the same: speak to your child at home in whatever language feels natural to you - Filipino, English, Bisaya, anything. What matters is consistency and genuine conversation, not the number of languages. 💛

What if you're breastfeeding two children at the same time? 🤱🤱

Tandem nursing - breastfeeding a new baby AND their older sibling at the same time. It's more common than you'd think, and YES, it's safe. 💛

A few real questions I get asked often:

"Will I have enough milk for both?" - Yes; supply works on a demand basis, more frequent nursing means more milk is produced.
"Will my older child feel jealous?" - Emotional shifts are normal; involve them (let them help "burp" baby or bring the blanket) so they feel included, not replaced.
"Should the new baby get colostrum only?" - Not a problem; colostrum is exactly what's meant for a newborn's first feeds, even while their older sibling nurses too.

There's nothing wrong with nursing two children. What matters is that you and your children are comfortable. 💛

Did you know that pediatricians care for children up to age 18? We're not just "baby doctors." 👨‍👩‍👧

Tweens and teenagers have their own set of health needs - physical AND emotional - that still need close attention:

🧠 Mental health check-ins - not just "how are you," but truly listening
📱 Balanced screen time - not banned, but with boundaries
🩺 Puberty concerns - it's normal to have questions, and normal to feel shy, so a safe space matters
💬 Open communication at home - they're far more likely to tell you the truth if they know they won't be judged for it

As a parent, the biggest gift you can give a teenager isn't perfection - it's being approachable. 💛

🩺 Pedia: Ice cream is cleared. Tonsillitis is caused by viruses and bacteria - NOT cold food. She’s fine. Scientifically vindicated. Case closed.

🦷 Dentist: DID ANYONE BRUSH AFTER? 🪥😤

😂😂😂

The moral of the story:
✅ Ice cream will NOT give your child tonsillitis
✅ Cold food does NOT cause throat infections
✅ Viruses and bacteria do - wash those hands!

⚠️ BUT - sugar + teeth + no brushing = your dentist’s worst nightmare

So enjoy the ice cream. Then brush. Everyone wins. 💛🍦🦷
