Their bodies are changing day by day, and they can't tell you what's wrong, which is exactly why paediatric osteopathy takes patience and a lot of questions.
Ben Lai, our Principal Osteopath and Advanced Paediatric Osteopath, completed two years of postgraduate study in the UK to focus specifically on babies and children after finding that university training alone didn't cover the detail he needed.
One thing he's precise about: he prefers the term "birth strains" over "birth trauma." Many babies experience some restriction in the neck during pregnancy or birth, most often present as head preference or torticollis, which can make feeding, latching, or jaw movement harder. It's common, and it's not necessarily traumatic.
We've put together a free guide on supporting your baby's early development, covering flat head syndrome, torticollis, and what to look out for at home.
