Today, 16 June 2026 marks 9 years of CompassionateYou 💜

It began with a simple intention,
sharing self-compassion with a small group of friends who were open to exploring a kinder way of relating to themselves.

Over the years, the community has taken shape in different ways, yet its essence remains in the quiet support and connection.

Thank you for holding this space together.
For your support, and for being part of this community, in your own way, at your own pace.

Many people worry that being kind to themselves is selfish.

Especially if they are used to putting others first.

But self-compassion is not about choosing yourself instead of others.

It is about including yourself.

According to Kristin Neff, self-compassion is linked to greater empathy and more supportive relationships.

When we are constantly depleted or overwhelmed, it becomes harder to show up for others in a meaningful way.

Caring for yourself does not take away from others.

It allows you to be more present, more patient, and more grounded in your relationships.

You don’t have to disappear to be a good person 💜

We’re often taught that being hard on ourselves keeps us accountable.

So when we try to be kinder, it can feel uncomfortable.
Like we’re making excuses or avoiding responsibility.

But self-compassion is not avoidance.

Avoiding responsibility ignores what happened.
It looks away, blames, or shuts down.

Self-compassion does the opposite.

It creates enough safety to face things honestly.

“I made a mistake.”
“This had an impact.”
“I can learn from this.”

Without attacking yourself.

According to Kristin Neff, self-compassion supports responsibility because it reduces shame, making it easier to reflect, learn, and take meaningful action.

You don’t need to be harsh to be accountable.

You can take responsibility
and still treat yourself with respect 💜

Self-compassion is often misunderstood as “just stay positive.”
But forcing positivity is not the same as caring for yourself.

Forced positivity tries to push discomfort away.
It tells us to focus on the good side, even when something feels heavy or painful.

But when we ignore what we feel, it doesn’t disappear.
It just gets pushed aside.

Self-compassion takes a different approach.

It allows you to be honest:

This is hard.
This hurts.
This is what I’m feeling.

From there, you can respond in a way that actually supports you, not just in the moment, but in a more sustainable way.

Self-compassion is not about replacing negative thoughts with positive ones.

It is about relating to your experience with honesty and care.

Because real support does not start with positivity.
It starts with presence 💜

Many people believe that self-criticism is necessary for motivation.

It can feel like being hard on ourselves is what keeps us disciplined and driven.

But this kind of motivation often comes with pressure, fear, and eventually burnout.

Self-compassion offers a different approach.

According to Kristin Neff, self-compassion is associated with greater motivation and resilience, not less.

When we relate to ourselves with care instead of harsh judgment, we are more willing to try again, learn from mistakes, and keep going.

Because growth does not require self-attack.

It requires support.
