You got this today! You can do it!

My name is Christine and I am 71 years old.

I am thinking of my grandchildren beginning their Leaving and Junior Certificate today, and I am wishing them all the best this week. All of me wants the best that life can offer them in their future personal and professional lives.

I left school at 16 with what is now Junior certificate and went to work in Dublin in the Civil Service. Back then the focus was on getting a job, a pensionable job if possible.

I had alrady started 5th year in secondary school and so decided to do my Leaving Certificate exams by attending night classes in Dublin. I passed it just about!

Office work was not for me, or should I say it was not enough for me, and so I found myself working in the kitchen in the local hospital where I found more fulfillment in shining silver teapots than filing documents. This was much to the embarrassment of my parents, at the time.

Later I got married and had my lovely family.

Then at 35 I was searching for support for my marriage, parenting skills, and generally struggling in my life, and I went for some counselling, then I went back to education, beginning with a Personal Development Course, then a Family Ministry certificate course, and then a 2 year Introduction to Counselling Diploma which led me to a Professional Training in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Five years after completing my training as a therapist, I completed a Clinical Supervision Course. By then I was a well-established practicing Counselor/Psychotherapist and Supervisor and Facilitator of Workshops.

I was 50 years old when I began my Master's degree and this brought me to building a third level training and education institute, The International College for Personal and Professional Development, ICPPD, which offers 4-year BA Honors degree programmes in Counseling and Psychotherapy in Athlone, Galway and Dublin.

3 years ago, at 68 I was awarded a PhD in Psychotherapy.

I am now semi-retired and work part time as a Psychotherapist and Supervisor and Facilitator of workshop and as a Conference speaker. I also lecture part time, but mostly now I have time to do fun things like playing the ukulele, making ceramics, and line dancing.

I'm really interested in researching Eco psychotherapy and how my love of nature can support others in finding their innate nature and reconnecting with the wisdom of the natural world This is my next academic and professional chapter… and it comes from my love and passion for the Earth and its beauty, persistence, and how it shapes me at this time of my life.

Despite the mistakes and regrets I have in my life, I also have a sense that I am where I am meant to be in my life, and I got here by following my heart, listening to my body, and hearing my dreams and intuition, then getting the information I needed to make it happen, and most of all, then by doing it!

I am writing this today in the hope that I can support and encourage you to listen to your head, heart and gut and - follow your dreams - Lean do brionglóidí, or Lean do chuid aislingí, as we say in our beautiful Irish language.

You are never too old to learn and to grow. John Moriarity the Irish writer, mystic, and philosopher had this to say “The real question is am I still growing? Have I become a finished creation? Am I dead or am I still growing? Is my life still an adventure?” - so if you are doing exams, or wondering what to do with your life, then, my hope for you is that you don't let your past experiences define you, you are more than your past, and I hope you continue to outgrow past perspectives, that you embrace wonder, and remain open to life's adventures and surprises.

I ask you today - what do you dream of now?

When Women Gather — The Quiet Power of a Wild, Wise Women’s Circle

It often begins with a hesitation.

A woman reads about a women’s circle and something inside her stirs — curiosity, maybe even longing. But then the familiar thoughts arrive.

Will I fit in?
What if I don’t know what to say?
What if everyone else has it more together than I do?

And yet, something deeper whispers: Maybe this is exactly what I need.

So she comes.

She walks into the room on that first day — perhaps a little nervous, perhaps carrying the invisible weight of work, family, expectations, and the quiet pressure many women carry to hold everything together.

Around the room sit other women who have arrived with their own stories, their own doubts, their own hopes.

At first, the conversation is gentle. Careful. A little uncertain.

But something begins to shift.

Because when women gather with honesty and intention, something remarkable happens: the masks slowly fall away.

Someone shares a story about feeling not good enough.
Another admits she struggles to prioritise herself.
Another speaks about losing confidence somewhere along the way.

And suddenly the room softens.

Heads nod. Shoulders relax. Eyes meet in quiet recognition.

The thought that so many women carry privately — maybe it’s just me — dissolves in the warmth of shared experience.

This is the quiet power of a women’s circle.

From a humanistic and holistic perspective, growth happens when we are met with empathy, authenticity, and acceptance. It happens when the whole person is welcomed — thoughts, emotions, intuition, creativity, vulnerability, and strength.

Over four gatherings across six weeks, a circle becomes more than a meeting. It becomes a living space for self-discovery.

Each session gently invites women to explore themes that lie at the heart of our wellbeing.

Self-Worth
Many of us have absorbed messages — from culture, family, work, or comparison — that our value must be earned.

But in a circle, something profound is remembered: worth is not something we achieve.
It is something we reclaim.

Self-Esteem
Confidence rarely grows in isolation.

It grows when our voice is heard. When our experiences are respected. When we realise that our perspective matters.

Self-Acceptance
Perhaps the most powerful shift happens when women begin to soften toward themselves.

Instead of constantly striving to be better, stronger, more capable, more everything — the circle invites a radical and healing practice: accepting ourselves as we are.

Self-Care and Self-Love
Self-care in a women’s circle becomes something deeper than a list of things to do.

It becomes a relationship with ourselves.

Women begin to ask new questions:

What do I truly need?
What nourishes my energy?
Where do I need clearer boundaries?

The Magic of Being Witnessed
One of the most powerful aspects of a women’s circle is something very simple: being witnessed.

There is something profoundly healing about speaking honestly while others listen — not to fix, judge, or advise, but simply to hear you.

In that moment, isolation transforms into connection.
And connection is powerful medicine.

Wild. Wise. Wonderfully Human.
The words wild and wise capture something essential about the spirit of a women’s circle.

Wild is the part of us that longs to live authentically — free from the constant pressure to perform or please.

Wise is the part of us that has gathered insight through life’s experiences, challenges, and growth.

When women gather in an intentional space of reflection and compassion, both of these qualities begin to reawaken.

Laughter becomes easier.
Honesty becomes safer.
Self-trust begins to return.

And women start to remember something they may have forgotten:
They are already whole.

A Gentle Return to Yourself
By the final gathering, something subtle yet powerful has shifted.

Women who arrived as strangers now greet one another with familiarity. Conversations flow more freely. There is more ease, more warmth, more presence.

The journey of self-discovery is far from finished — but something important has begun.

A reconnection.

With self-worth.
With self-compassion.
With the quiet wisdom that lives within each woman.

Because sometimes the most powerful transformation begins in the simplest way:

A group of women.
A safe space.
A circle.

And the courage to show up exactly as you are.

Welcome to the next Wonderful, Wild, Wise, Women's Circle commencing soon in person near Athlone.

Why are you so enchanted by this world
when a mine of gold lies within you?
Open your eyes and come
Return to the root of your own soul.
