Fáilte to a wonderful evening 🌿 So proud to celebrate Sophie Morris and the launch of Sophie's Swaps Homemade Wins tonight at Fumbally Cafe 📖✨

Sophie's mission - real, honest ingredients over shortcuts - is a message so close to my heart. And this is something that we talk to the people here in the clinic every day too - proper nutrition.
She also spoke tonight about school meals in Ireland, and as a mother and a nutrition professional, I couldn't agree more - our children deserve food that's made local, is fresh and healthy, not processed shortcuts. I hope deeply that the influence Sophie has can finally help drive real change in the Irish school meal programme and also farming.

CHOCOLATE - SHOULD IT BE TESTED?

Turns out, a lot of cocoa/cacao on the market carries heavy metals like lead and cadmium above safe limits. Even the "organic" and "fair trade" labels don't guarantee it's clean.

And here's the part that should give everyone pause: labels didn't reliably predict which products were contaminated and which weren't.

This is exactly why purity, for us, isn't a marketing word - it's a practice.
At KALLAI, every ingredient that goes into our products is tested on heavy metals, including aluminium, before it ever reaches you. We make sure we know how our cacao farms produce. We don't rely on assumptions, industry averages, or certifications alone.🌱

An eight-year analysis of 72 cocoa products found 43% exceeded California Proposition 65 limits for lead and 35% exceeded them for cadmium. Organic, fair trade, and non-GMO certifications did not reliably predict lower contamination levels, and separate testing of more than 469 products found 285 above allowable dose levels for one or more metals.
