Haemochromatosis Awareness Week
It is World Haemochromatosis Awareness Week.
This is the most important time of the year, when the Irish Haemochromatosis Association urges everyone in Ireland to recognise the symptoms of the nation’s ‘Hidden Condition’, often called the ‘Celtic Gene’.
What is haemochromatosis? Haemochromatosis is a condition causes the body to absorb too much iron from food. Over time, excess iron can build up in vital organs including the liver, heart, pancreas and joints, potentially leading to irreversible damage if left untreated. Serious complications can include liver disease, heart problems, diabetes and joint damage.
