I have a few 1litre bottles of small-batch, traditionally pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil, grown from a private olive grove in Italy. It’s completely free from chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilisers. Olive oil as it should be!

Perfect for drizzling over crisp salads, dipping bread together with balsamic vinegar, swirl over your soup, make vibrant pesto, pour over feta or mozzarella, drizzle over your avocado on sourdough toast with some tomatoes, and finishing your favourite pasta dishes. An essential part of the ultra healthy Mediterranean diet.

It is also an amazing skin friendly moisturiser, hair mask for dry ends, and a cuticle softener. I make all my salves and creams using herb infused olive oil because it has lots of fat soluble vitamins and antioxidant polyphenols which have been proven to boost cell migration that accelerates wound healing and minimises scarring.

This pretty little flower is vervain (Verbena officinalis), and it native to Europe and the U.K.. It is an excellent bitter nervine, with relaxing and anti-anxiety properties. I tend to work with vervain where there is anxiety and stress in people who have a harsh inner critic that drives them to be a bit of a perfectionist. Vervain is especially helpful if there is accompanying digestive disturbance and irritability. Such a lot from a tiny flower - isn’t nature amazing?!

Jen and Eamon have loads of herbs, both medicinal and culinary, as well as vegetables, garden plants and cut flower bouquets!

I’ve made a new batch of my famous Muscle and Joint Relief! Created with herb infused olive oil, vitamin E, beeswax and inflammation modulating and pain relieving essential oils. Completely natural and cruelty free, in recyclable glass and aluminium jars. Made in small batches, and smelling gorgeous it just flies off the shelf!

My almost famous ‘secret recipe’ Bitters Spray is back in stock! This 50ml spray bottle contains a blend of carefully chosen bitter herbs traditionally used to stimulate digestion. Bitter receptors on the tongue and throughout the body prepare the digestive tract to digest a meal and absorb nutrients more effectively. The spray is very safe as you are taking a few drops only and so doesn’t interfere with pharmaceutical medicines or the metabolism pathways through the liver.

I harvested the first few Agrimony (Agrimonia eupatoria) stems this morning for drying. You may know it by one of its other names, church steeples or sticklewort. Agrimony has a lovely relaxing, antispasmodic quality that is really helpful for those people who carry tension in their body, specifically when it affects the digestion. It is mildly bitter and also supports the liver.it is a specific herb for those who hide their troubles behind a smile and the Bach flower remedy Agrimony focuses on this aspect. The flower remedy is a “type remedy” which means that this type of person tends to present as cheerful and content even making light of things, while inwardly troubled, and they often find discord and confrontation difficult. Agrimony as a herb, is also astringent, and this helps to tone tissue that has become lax- so it has a really beautiful balancing effect between relaxation and toning. Such a helpful herb with many clinical applications, yet gentle and supportive!

One of the enjoyable aspects of being a herbalist is gathering herbs. These gorgeous medicines were gathered on my way in to the clinic this morning - can you identify them? They’ll be dried in the dehydrator over the next day or so and I have to say that the clinic is smelling lovely!

It’s summer! The Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria) is in bloom and the fragrance is like sweet flowery hay. You can find it growing in ditches and boggy fields. Meadowsweet is a brilliant herb for gastric reflux, and can help to normalise stomach acid production. Its salicylic acid constituents it can also be helpful for arthritic or rheumatic pain. Not only that, but Meadowsweet is inflammation modulating and astringent. The tea is delicious!
