Chickenpox is a viral infection caused by Varicella Zoster Virus.
It is very contagious.
People may be infectious for 2 days before the rash appears and until the spots are crusted over.
You can feel generally unwell with a temperature, have headaches, and aches and pains for a few days before the rash appears.
The rash is small clusters of fluid filled blisters and are itchy.
There are lots of over the counter treatment options available.

If you need advice make an appointment to discuss with a doctor.

Please inform staff that you are concerned about possible Chickenpox so we can arrange to see you without other patients being put at risk of infection.

💉The Chickenpox Vaccine can be provided at Bray Family Practice. It is not part of the immunisation programme in Ireland, so there is a fee for the vaccine and administration. If you are interested call the surgery or speak to our practice nurse.
