We were delighted to have John Sharry from Parents Plus out to Bray to provide practitioners with upskilling training in the updated Parents Plus Early Years programme. SPECS have been working with John and his colleagues in Parents Plus over the last number of years to support the updated PPEY programme and we are looking forward to rolling it out with parents over the coming months. To mark the 20th anniversary of the Growing Up in Ireland study, the Department of Children, Disability and Equality is inviting children and young people aged 4-15 from across Ireland to take part in the National Children's Art Competition. The competition theme is "Ireland of the Future”. Young artists are encouraged to share their hopes, ideas and vision for the future through art. This October, the RSA’s Check it Fits service will be visiting Wicklow. Did you know it’s the law that all children under 150cms or 36kgs must use a child car seat appropriate to their weight and height. In Ireland as many as 54% of child car seats are incorrectly fitted which can lead to serious injury or even death in a collision. For more information on the service visit www.checkitfits.ie

We are deeply saddened by the passing of John O’Brien, former Chairperson of the Board of Bray & North Wicklow Area Partnership.

John made a significant contribution to the life of Bray through his lifelong commitment to the labour movement and to the local community. His dedication, experience and strong sense of social justice were greatly valued during his time with the Partnership, and his contribution to our work is remembered with gratitude.

We were delighted that John was able to join us at our 30th anniversary celebration last November (pictured, front row, on the right).

We extend our sincere condolences to John’s family, friends and former colleagues. May he rest in peace 🙏
