The Sustainable Teacher
Mental Health, Stress and the Emotional Demands of Teaching
3-hour CPD professional development workshop for teachers
Next workshop: 25 September 2026
Teaching is not only intellectually demanding. It is also emotional and relational work.
Teachers are expected to manage classrooms, respond to students’ needs, communicate with parents, work with colleagues and management, make repeated decisions under pressure, and remain professionally composed — often while carrying pressures from their own lives at the same time.
The Sustainable Teacher is a psychologically informed workshop focused specifically on teachers’ mental health.
The workshop explores:
• The teacher behind the professional role
• The emotional demands of teaching
• How pressure accumulates and affects psychological capacity
• Recognising early warning signs of overload
• Emotional containment, suppression and professional responsibility
• Restoring mental health when something has deteriorated
• Improving psychological functioning, relationships and boundaries
• Maintaining the factors that protect mental health over time
A central framework throughout the workshop is:
RESTORE • IMPROVE • MAINTAIN
The aim is not to tell teachers that they simply need to become more resilient or learn to tolerate greater pressure. The workshop provides a practical psychological framework for understanding what affects mental health, recognising changes earlier, and responding appropriately.
