The last few months have flown.

The pub is back open for the season, training is going well and online we’re cruising.

Honestly, I’m excited about making podcasts again..
I love the medium.

Sometimes I find it hard to show up here.
I see a lot of manufactured authenticity and I feel I don’t fit at times.

Other days I’m chilling and it just works.

Podcasts though are a lovely way to still chat and be unfiltered.

It’ll be a bigger part of my summer I feel.

One thing I noticed opening the pub & restaurant - the added stress and load impacted my way of thinking.

Not exactly positively or negatively, just influenced where I put my focus.

Which meant other things lacked.

My relationships took a hit I felt.

Not calling friends, or not as present as I would have liked to have been..

Not interacting with those I love in the right way - taking things for granted.

With the change of everything I guess it’s to be expected a little.

But now it’s time to allow those things more space.

Juggling it all at the start was a challenge.
But now we’re in a bit more of a flow.

Making sure to take time to find the joy.

I guess it’s all our first go at life, in this form.

That’s my journal entry for today..

✌️

Robbie

P.S. If you drop in to the pub don’t be afraid to say hello.

Stop with the “listen to your body”…

I understand it’s well meaning.
I think it can be very helpful for some.

But it’s not informing action as we would like it to.

If you’ve been dealing with the same issue for years.
Action is the only thing that is going to change it.

Saying “just listen to your body” to someone who’s liable to catastrophise at any pain or discomfort…

Is wild really.

The whole issue with chronic pain is you are interpreting everything as dangerous already.

So the problem on the upper level seems like it’s fixed, but on a deeper level it’s only being amplified.

“Understand your pain” is much more actionable.

As it us in a place to see what we can change going forward.

Both are beneficial, but if we’re looking to progress, this is the next stage I feel.

This is why I made her do what hurt - again.

This is a longer video because it’s needed to explain a concept.

The body is always adapting.

When you’re dealing with a chronic injury sometimes that feels like it’s not in your favour.

You try to exercise, but everything gets worse.

In this case that happened too.
But instead of pulling back in fear we’ve decided to accept it, understand it and go back out to try and change it.

The thing is we get more efficient over time.
But if you don’t have any guidance or support it will feel like every flare-up is a problem.

This approach changes the flare-up - to a strategic flare-up.

Our goal at the start is to understand it.

I just jumped off a call with a client and she said the best thing about the program is how we learn to co-regulate.

Where it’s not so scary anymore.
You don’t feel like you’re taking one step forward and two steps back.

You can break that loop.
No doubt it’s going to be scary.
To take the leap of faith.

But if you feel the injections, dry needling and physio is just getting you out of jail, but you’re inevitably going to be moving back into it again in a couple of weeks.

Then it’s not as much of a leap of faith as it’s an opportunity to actually get your life back.

If you’re tired of getting stuck in this cycle of fear, frustration and anger.

Sick of not being able to show up for your family and friends.

And want to learn exactly what pattern is causing you pain..

Check out our back pain diagnostic.

Comment ‘Diagnostic’ below and I’ll send it right over to you.

Once you understand the pattern, you can fix the root cause.

Robbie

P.S. I’m sweating so much here because I had to re-record this whole video after the first one had no sound!

Comment “FRAMEWORK” for free training on how to stop flare-ups and get back to life.

You’re pushing on a pull door.

Every day people send me their MRIs. Disc degeneration, bulging discs, facet joint changes. And they say: “This must be why I’m in pain.”

But 1 in 3 people have a bulging disc with no pain. 50% have degeneration with no pain. The scan shows the structure but it doesn’t explain the suffering.

The nervous system being stuck in protection mode? That’s much more common and absolutely overlooked.
If you sprain an ankle, it doesn’t “flare up.” It hurts until it heals. Clear injury. Clear recovery. Chronic back pain that’s been there for 5 years - flaring up, calming down, flaring up again - that’s not a structural problem behaving that way.

That’s a nervous system that never got the signal that the threat is gone.

I know this personally. I’ve had two bulging discs. I know how bad it gets. But the fact that it improves and then comes back means there’s more driving it than what showed up on the scan.

Treating the image instead of the pattern is why nothing has worked long-term.

This is also why chronic pain quietly erodes everything around it.

Your confidence

Your relationships

How you see yourself.

We work with people who are done being managed by it. Done being the person with the bad back.

Actually ready to feel like themselves again.

The route out is not random exercises, massage, and dry needling. It’s different. And I’ll show you exactly what it is.

Comment “Reset” for full flare-up management system.

We forget that with any pain - there is a huge fear based response.

Especially if you’ve been running into the same issue for years.

You do a movement that causes a dart of pain.

Then every previous experience you’ve ever had with your back, flushes your mind.

You don’t even realise but you go into full panic response.

“I can’t move”.

Which then further intensifies the pain.

The body starts to lock up and pain spreads.

This is a very common experience for people who jump into our programs…

And the ones who have the most success.

Why?

Because the whole time they’ve been going to physio, they’ve been treating it like a new injury.

And not biological and psychological cycle.

Once you change the frame, and change how you look at it you can actually have success long term with fixing it.

If you need help, just send us a message saying help.

We can get you through this period and back to pain free, anxiety free movement.

Looking forward to chatting!

Comment “Back Program” so we can start to get this right.

If you’ve tried physio, chiropractors, or consultants…

But your back pain still keeps coming back.

This is important!

It’s not because you’re broken.

Or you haven’t tried hard enough.

But it’s because the wrong thing is being treated.

Think of it like this:
Your body has a faulty “check engine” light.

The alarm keeps going off giving you pain, stiffness and flare-ups…

Which makes everyone look for damage.

But this is really what’s happening:

Your nervous system has become over-protective.
The sensor is too sensitive.

Which is extremely common.
You’re not alone.

Therefore normal findings like disc bulges, degeneration, posture, or sitting get blamed for pain, even though they’re normal in people without pain.

You’re told:
“It’s your bad posture”
“Wear and tear”
“Bad backs run in the family”

And slowly fear takes over.

You stop exercising.
You move carefully.
You don’t trust your body anymore.

That’s the real problem.
And that causes the system to become even more protective again.

But the good news is the system can be retrained.

But you have to approach it differently.

That’s exactly what we do inside the Back Pain Back to Exercise Program.

This is for you if:

- Your back pain keeps flaring up even when you’re careful

- You’ve stopped exercising because you don’t trust your body

- Fear, pain, and anxiety are starting to control your life

Inside the program, you get..

Clear structure: so you know exactly what to do

Clarity: so flare-ups stop feeling scary or confusing

Ongoing support and accountability: so you don’t quit

All with one goal:

Helping you to return to the gym, classes, sport, or consistent exercise - safely and confidently.

If that sounds like you,
comment “Back Program” below.

We’ll help you do this properly.

Robbie

P.S. If you have Irish health insurance, you may be eligible to claim money back on the program, we’ll explain how.

Amy’s Testimonial

Amy had exhausted the option of “physio”.

Her shoulder was killing her, exercise was her outlet but it had been taken away.

She tried to rest, but the pain was there!

She was being cautious, but constantly ran into the same issue.

At the start we did all the basics, the stuff you’d expect.

Went through the history & movements.

Included all the “right” exercises.

But never had the expectation for everything to be 100% - just because we did that.

Why?

Because exercises are only one part of the equation.

These issues are complex, and often “normal physio” will only give you short term relief.

So we dug deeper.

We started to adjust her training schedule and look at her lifestyle.

Some things had to be confronted…

From a personal and a training perspective.

You can’t train yourself out of fatigue.

You need to be honest with how you approach it.

And that is exactly what Amy was.

Even with a little resistance (at the start!)😉

When we started she couldn’t think about running without having pain - during & after.

It wasn’t worth it. She had tried and tried to return. But it felt like she was back at square one.

Wondering if it will ever get better.

Her life became dictated by pain.

However, she was keen to change.

She took everything on board, stuck to the plan and made the changes necessary.

Things started to improve..

Slowly.

Some good days, and some bad.

But then the good days became more plentiful.
And the bad ones disappeared.

She got confidence she was doing the right things.

We continued to check in, support and refine our plan.

That’s why she’s able to record this video - while running pain free.

Back training in the activities she loves.

If exercise is something you honestly miss, because you’re managing pain all day we can help.

There is space open in our 1-2-1 Select program.

We’re happy to chat and create a plan.

But you need to reach out.

Just DM us with your “Help”.

And we will take it from there.

Robbie

P.S. Amy deserves all of it. I was happy to be guide and support. But her resilience, courage and openness is commendable.

Monkey see monkey do.

Be aware of how you carry and how you talk about your body in front of those who matter most.

If you’re complaining about the same back issue, or having a bad back remember there is a good chance the pick up on these cues.

You can change this.

You just need to right approach.

But getting massages, adjustments and just doing random exercises isn’t going to cut it.

You need a biopsychosocial approach.

I hope I’m doing this rightIf I can bring some light or luck to others along the way, that should make do for me.
