Alexandra was three when she came to her first eyewear show with Paula.

Today, we travel to shows together, meet designers, discover new collections and debate the colours, shapes and pieces that deserve a place at Farnan Opticians.

We bring different generations and different perspectives to the process —
Experience gives us an instinct for what works; a fresh perspective keeps us looking for what's next, 'The Farnan Edit' lives somewhere beautifully in between.

What hasn't changed is the excitement of finding something special and thinking:
“We know exactly who would look incredible in this.”

From being brought to an eyewear show aged three.. to choosing frames together,
some things really do come full circle! 😊

Autumn has entered the chat…
And apparently, she has very good taste.

Merlot. Chocolate. Amber. Olive. And a little cobalt thrown in — because we were never going to behave ourselves entirely.

We love the richer palette that comes with this time of year, but choosing colour is about much more than following a trend.

The right frame can warm your complexion, bring out your eyes, lift your favourite knit or give the simplest outfit a completely different mood.
And sometimes the colour you’d never have picked up is the one.

Consider this our autumn wardrobe, at eye level.

We’ve been dying to get our hands on the September issue of British Vogue — and seeing our little town, and the incredible women behind Carrickmacross Lace , on these pages feels very special indeed.

There’s something wonderful about seeing a craft that has been part of Carrickmacross for generations celebrated through the lens of contemporary fashion and couture.
And for us, there’s an extra little bit of pride.
We have the pleasure of styling some of the women behind this extraordinary craft here at Farnan Opticians— choosing eyewear with them that feels every bit as individual as they are.

Perhaps that’s why this story resonates with us so much. We believe beautiful things become even more special when you know the hands, the skill and the personality behind them.

It started with Frank.

In 1940, Frank Farnan, Paula's uncle, opened his optician’s practice.

More than 80 years later, his name is still above our door.

A lot has changed since this photograph was taken — the frames, the technology, the way we work and certainly the fashions.

But some things haven’t.

An independent eye for quality.
Taking time with people.
And a belief that the right pair of glasses really matters.

Today, we travel further to find our eyewear and the collections look rather different from those in Frank’s window — but we like to think he would recognise what still sits at the heart of our practice and be proud.

Personal service, independent thinking, and a love of a really good pair of glasses.
