Some of the moves we did this week to get the shoulders open and moving. Head position vital too; retract skull and back of neck as often as you remember!

If your shoulders get stiff, daily tasks like brushing your hair or putting on a jacket can become a struggle. You may also notice that tight shoulders and rounded upper back often go together. Avoid that forward slump.

Posture is power, from your feet up to your crown!

Another piece of wonderful Pilates equipment has found a corner in Lagganstown Schoolhouse... the wunda chair.

Humbling at times, the wunda chair is also brilliant for anyone who may have vertigo; for example, you get benefits of footwork as on reformer without carriage movement. That's just one example, it's limitless.

In small group classes here, one gets to experience Pilates in many different ways. Same principles, various experiences of same thing! This piece has been in my home for last seven months after training last September.

Ideas for great functional moves for when you feel a bit disconnected from your body. I know I get restless and achy if I don't move frequently.

Use wall or whatever is handy to assist with balance. Use your breath and core connections to move efficiently.

1/ Breath awareness
Three dimensional inhales. Get those rib cages moving! Sense diaphragm drawing upwards to expel your in-breath.

2/ Standing cat/cow
Get your whole spine moving; opening at front (extension) to opening at the back (flexion). Try to find evenness and smoothness as you change shape.

3/ Hip hinge and squats with arm movement. Free up your pelvis and hips with hinges. Keep spine long and still with tops of legs moving freely in hip sockets.

4/ Arm movement with ribs staying still; try to sense movement of arms in shoulder sockets in range that suits you. And of course heel raises - so good for feet, calves and circulatory system. Bit of balance challenge if you feel like it.

5/ Front of thigh or quad stretch with single leg hip extension. Don't let it go to your low back - keep pelvis square and p***c bone forward. Press foot into hand and hand against foot. Try balance and heart opening further up the line!

Connect to your body and enjoy your day ☺️

Speedy peak at my 18-minute mat workout with magic circle - requested by subscriber to my video library.

Keep yourself moving with Pilates between classes or perhaps you simply prefer to workout at home. Short on time? Choose between 5, 10 or 20-minute sessions.

Joseph Pilates was apparently inspired by rings around a beer keg or brandy barrel to design the magic circle! A light and flexible prop, it helps you fire up those small muscles, assists feeling of elongation, and offers support too. Learn to work with it to your advantage, not to fight it!

Warm Easter greetings ❤️

This was yesterday... the blossoms are now like confetti all over the garden. Time to breathe, chill and hunker down this evening.

Don't overlook 'simple' standing exercises like this one. Pilates using reformer is great - yes, I love it myself! - but there is so much you can do at home that will help you stay strong and upright!

Make the muscular connections in your hip, knee and foot to push into floor as you stand on one leg. Keep trying - it does get easier. Find your rhythm and aim for 10 side steps each way.

Adding hand weights for bicep curl is optional.

All set up for week ahead! Cycled to studio between showers 🌦️🌧️🌤️ !

More clients than not aren't affected by school mid-term break. If you are, let me know and I will offer your space to someone else. And fit you in for an extra class in lieu again 😉

Here's a flavour of what's planned. Removing shoulder rests makes for lots of space and variety in what we do. Matwork on reformer, for example. And I love the spine correctors for chest and side body opening, supported ab work with no neck strain, plus so much more. Also using like box (for spine twist and side arm work) except curved surface feels different.

We're going to have fun with these! Along with lots of strengthening and stretching of course. ✅✅✅
Videos sped up and very few reps,

Beautiful classes in this cosy schoolhouse so far today. Infrared heat from above complements the wall heaters. Always warm while you're here for your Pilates class.

Hate to think how cold it must have been for the little school kids in the past!
