A brief update for my patients
As fewer obstetric and gynaecology colleagues in the Castlebar area are now offering private services, I would like to clarify how your care will continue when I am away. I remain committed to looking after you in both my private practice and my HSE role, according to the care pathway you choose.
From 14–17 September, I will be attending the Transform Trauma Oxford 2026 conference https://mastersevents.com/oxford-2026/ in order to learn more to support you better.
If you are under my private care and need assessment while I am unavailable, you will receive the same excellent care provided to HSE public patients by my hospital colleagues. When I return, I will resume your care.
During my absence, support will remain available through my practice. My practice manager, Clodagh, can offer guidance and help with queries. My midwife, Maura, can provide breastfeeding support, advice on a range of pregnancy concerns, specialist ultrasound scans and hypnobirthing preparation.
Additional support in these hard times is also available from Jen Rutherford Reflexology http://www.jenrutherfordreflexology.com/ and, for musculoskeletal aches and pains, from Shauna Fee Osteopathy https://www.instagram.com/shaunafeeosteo/ .
Thank you for your understanding and trust. My team are here for you.

There is a lot of scaremongering around soy and soya: as always: it’s best to refer to the scientific evidence

https://nutritionstudies.org/crucial-soy-link/

In view of the recent news on the health benefits of soy protein, what do we find in our China Project? Since China is one of the leading producers and consumers of soy products in the world, their use of this food may be of special interest.

Many of you wonder about Chocolate cravings and find these particularly strong in times of hormonal turmoil: you are on the right track: cacao: which should be the main ingredient is actually helping: so go for cacao from here in the west of Ireland:
The team from Nibbed Cacao write: Let's talk hormones, perimenopause is the one we're focusing on today, but honestly this one's for anyone whose hormones have ever felt like they had a mind of their own. Cycle changes, postpartum, stress-related shifts, perimenopause, menopause, hormones affect all of us, at every stage.
We got a message this week from someone navigating perimenopause, and it gave us a little push to tell you all about how it could help.

So here's what's naturally in a cup of pure, organic, 100% cacao and why we think it deserves a place in your routine, whatever stage you're in:
magnesium: one of the most naturally magnesium-rich foods there is. Magnesium is well known for its role in supporting the nervous system and relaxation.
iron: a natural source, important for energy levels, especially when your body's already working hard to keep up with hormonal shifts.
flavonoids (antioxidants): naturally occurring in pure cacao, known for supporting the body's natural defence against everyday oxidative stress.
theobromine: cacao's gentle and calmer natural stimulant. Unlike caffeine, it's known for a smoother, steadier lift, without the jittery crash.
fibre: from the whole cacao bean, which plays a role in digestion, something that can also feel a bit unpredictable during hormonal shifts.
chromium: a mineral known for supporting healthy blood sugar balance, which can be especially relevant when hormonal shifts bring on cravings or energy dips.
We're not saying cacao fixes hormone symptoms. We're saying: if your body's already going through a lot, giving it real, nutrient-dense ingredients instead of stripped-back, jittery ones feels like one small thing you can control.
Whatever stage you're in, we'd love to know what's helping you feel more like yourself. Hit reply and tell us.
All the cacao love,
The Nibbed Crew
