Communication is so much more than words! Your child’s ability to communicate with you begins long before they say their first words. From playful sounds like raspberries, lip smacking and tongue clicking, your baby is learning to engage with the world and take turns with you. These non-speech sounds are a great way to connect, model and build the foundation for all future learning. Children learn by copying you.

In clinic, when a child isn’t yet using words or symbolic sounds, I often begin with these non-speech sounds to encourage imitation.

What’s so lovely to watch here is that this little one isn’t just “looking” - he’s learning through every movement.

Research has shown that babies are naturally drawn to face-like patterns from birth, particularly high-contrast features like eyes and simple facial expressions. That’s why intentional toy design matters so much in those early months.

Watch right to the end. 👀 After all the modelling, pausing, and playful repetition… watch what happens.

Parents often ask me how to get their child interested in books, and honestly, I think it’s much less about the book itself and much more about how we approach reading together.

In this video, you’ll notice:
⏸️ Lots of pausing
🔂 Repitition
⬇️ Reducing questions
✅ Following his lead
👀 Noticing what captures his attention

Book reading doesn’t need to look “perfect”. It can be upside down, skipping pages, back to front and that’s okay.

The goal is connection, enjoyment and creating positive experiences around books. And sometimes, when we take the pressure away and simply model language through play… lovely moments happen naturally. 💕

To all my fellow business owners. Sometimes it’s important to pause for a moment and really take stock of how far you’ve come.

The late nights, the risks, the constant problem-solving, the wearing of so many hats behind the scenes that nobody ever really sees.

Building something from scratch takes courage. Especially when you’re balancing family, work, finances, self-doubt, and still continuing to show up every day.

So this is your reminder to celebrate the small wins too. Because they’re not actually small.

Parents always ask me, how can I get my baby to say ‘Mama’?” Your child needs a solid understanding of the word “mama” first. Start early and make it FUN! In the video, you’ll see how I’m modelling our names in a playful way without pressure.

By swapping the soother back and forth, I label “Callum’s susu” and “Mama’s susu” over and over. Through repetition, he begins to understand language, names and turn-taking - all while having fun!
