"Check again."
"Google it."
"Ask for reassurance."

And temporarily, it works.

But your brain learns: "I can't cope without certainty."

That's how the anxiety cycle grows.

Your brain believes what you REPEAT.

The thoughts you repeat become the lens through which you see yourself, your abilities and how you show up for yourself.

What story do you keep telling yourself and what is it costing you?

Feeling stuck?

Motivation rarely comes first. Mood follows action; not the other way around.

3 signs that you might be feeding your anxiety without even realising it.

A lot of anxiety isn't just about what we feel - it's about the habits we unknowingly build around it.

Have you ever noticed how quickly your mind jumps to the worst-case scenario?

Those automatic thoughts didn't appear overnight. They're often shaped by experiences that taught your brain what to expect from the world. At one point, those thought patterns may have helped protect you. But they don't always reflect your life as it is today.

One of the goals of CBT is to gently explore these thoughts with curiosity rather than judgment. Where did they come from? Are they still accurate? Is there another way of understanding what's happening?

Most parents reassure because they care.

That's completely understandable.

The challenge is that anxiety rarely stays satisfied for long. It often comes back looking for more certainty.

Over time, children benefit more from learning:
✔ how to tolerate uncertainty
✔ how to trust their coping skills
✔ how to face fears gradually

That small shift can make a big difference.

Researchers sometimes describe adolescence as a developmental "hotspot" — a window of opportunity when the brain is particularly capable of learning, adapting, and forming new patterns.

This is one reason CBT can be so effective for young people.

CBT doesn't just help children understand their thoughts and feelings. It helps them practise new ways of responding, and the brain strengthens what it repeatedly does.

#6 was the one that hit home the most for me. What about you? What is something you heard in therapy that changed how you thought about things?

Why Overchecking Feels Helpful—But Keeps You Stuck in Anxiety

Overchecking can feel protective, but it trains your brain to see uncertainty as dangerous. Each time you research or seek reassurance to reduce anxiety, the relief is short-lived—and the urge to check returns stronger. Real confidence grows not from knowing everything in advance, but from learning, through experience, that you can handle uncertainty as it comes....

The anxious thought isn’t the problem.

It’s what happens next: you believe it
fight it
or avoid because of it.

You’re about to leave the house and think, ‘What if I panic when I’m out?’

So you hesitate; or stay close to home; or cancel your plans.

The more you try to push it away, the louder it gets.

Thoughts are just thoughts. Not commands.

If this feels familiar, this is exactly what I help clients with using CBT.

DM me “ANXIETY” if you want to learn more.
