Great to meet up with Dr Rodney Peyton and his wife Lynne in Cork this morning

Rodney has worked closely with us for many years, carrying out pre-screening on medical negligence cases and advising us on hundreds of enquiries over that time.

Pre-screening is an extremely important service for both solicitor and client. It allows solicitors to carefully filter enquiries — acknowledging that while circumstances may be traumatic, they do not always amount to medical negligence — and to focus time and resources on cases that are appropriate to progress.

For clients, pre-screening also provides reassurance and peace of mind. Even where a case does not meet the threshold for medical negligence, clients can take comfort in knowing that the care and medical advice they received was appropriate at the time.

This morning we had a wide-ranging discussion on medical negligence, pre-screening, AI and the future of law.

📣 Exciting Firm Announcement – A New Chapter Begins

I am delighted to announce the merger of Sweeney Solicitors with James J. Kelly Solicitors, Templemore, effective 1 December 2025 🤝

James J. Kelly Solicitors was founded in 1956 by the late James J. Kelly, father of our now new colleague Joe Kelly - in the photo, we stand proudly in front of his portrait — a reminder of the legacy, integrity, and dedication to client service that has shaped the firm for nearly seven decades. 

We are honoured to continue that legacy into the future.

This merger marks a significant milestone for our firm as we expand our presence into County Tipperary, building on the proud tradition established by the Kelly family. We are delighted that Joe Kelly continues with us as Consultant Solicitor.

We also welcome (back) Aaron Sweeney who joins us as Partner and Head of Litigation
