An interesting morning was spent today when I was interviewed by BAP Medical on being a practitioner working with Scars after Cancer Surgery and reconstruction.
Did you know that your mastectomy scar or reconstruction scar can be treated within the first 6 weeks post surgery? If going through radiation therapy this changes to 3 weeks after your last session of radiotherapy.
Scars can lead to tightness, immobility, hypersensitivity and discomfort, but early intervention is key.
The treatment is a light touch therapy and is completely patient comfort led. This treatment is not available in the hospital and I am gratefully one of 3 therapists in Cork trained specifically in Oncology Scar Care. So it has become a passion of mine to let patients in recovery from Cancer know that this treatment exists.
