You see Pig Coin Posting... we see opportunities to practice skills.

At first glance, it might look like we're just playing with a toy but every piece has a purpose. These are just a few of the ways we are supporting the child - the list goes on!

EDC Clinic 🌻

Our Early Development Clinic is carefully set up to help the child feel safe, engaged, and ready to explore. Every toy and activity in the room has been chosen with purpose. We look to support communication, play, sensory processing, motor development, social interaction, and early learning through child-led play.

During your child's dual consultation, they will be seen together by both a Speech and Language Therapist and a Senior Occupational Therapist, allowing us to gain a comprehensive understanding of their strengths, needs, and developmental profile in one appointment. Working collaboratively means we can provide recommendations and clear next steps from the very beginning.

If you have concerns about your child's communication, play, sensory needs, motor skills, or overall development, early support can make a meaningful difference.

Book your child's dual consultation with our Early Development Clinic today by contacting our team.

You see Mr Potato Head... we see endless opportunities for communication.

At first glance, it might look like we're just playing with a toy but every piece has a purpose. These are just a few of the ways we are supporting the child - the list goes on!

Many families already have this toy at home, meaning these skills can be practised through fun, everyday play.

Why do we use visual timers in therapy?

A visual timer is much more than a countdown clock. It helps children see how much time is left, making the concept of time easier to understand.

In our clinic, visual timers can help children:

🌻 Prepare for transitions between activities
🌻 Understand when an activity will finish
🌻 Reduce anxiety around the unknown
🌻 Support attention and focus during tasks
🌻 Encourage independence by reducing the need for constant reminders
🌻 Build confidence with routines and expectations

These timers we use are accessible to buy for your home.

Not every sensory activity needs to involve shaving foam, slime or materials that aren't safe if they end up in a child's mouth.

For many of the children we work with, the biggest challenge isn't that they dislike messy play- it's that they're still exploring the world by tasting it.

If a child is likely to mouth, lick or eat sensory materials, using taste-safe alternatives means you can focus on interaction instead of constantly saying, "No, don't eat that."

Think yoghurt instead of paint. Cooked pasta instead of water beads. Mashed potato instead of cloud dough. Chia pudding instead of slime.

It doesn't mean encouraging children to eat while they play, but it does make the activity safer if they do have a taste.

πŸ“š CPD Day at Sunflower Clinic! 🌻

This morning was all about learning, collaborating, and growing together as clinicians.

Taking time for CPD allows us to reflect on our practice, explore the latest evidence, share ideas, and continue developing the skills that help us provide the highest quality care to the children and families we support.

A huge thank you to Joanne who led today's discussions and learning. We’re excited to bring new knowledge and fresh ideas back into our therapy sessions!

Here's to lifelong learning and continually striving to be the best clinicians we can be. πŸ’›
