Congratulations to Professor Chris Lynch, Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Dentistry on the Journal’s success in the recent Impact Factor rankings which were released in June 2026.

The new Impact Factor for Journal of Dentistry has increased to 5.8, up from 5.5 last year.

The Journal of Dentistry is ranked 10th out of 165 journals on an international level, this means the Journal of Dentistry is in the top 6% of dental journals internationally when ranked by Impact Factor.

Professor Lynch has served as Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Dentistry since 2011. The Journal is one of the leading international scientific dental journals. In 2025, just over 4,000 new manuscripts were submitted to the Journal from authors and researchers all over the world.

Congratulations to Professor Declan Millett who was conferred with FDSRCSEd ad hominem on Friday, 26th June, 2026.

The award of Fellowship ad hominem was made to Declan in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the profession, and to Orthodontics in particular. The Fellowship ad hominem is made at the discretion of the College Council and is one of the highest awards the College can bestow

Well done to Dr Éabha Cronin who presented her work at the BAOMS Annual Scientific Meeting held at the International Convention Centre in Belfast from 24-26 June and to her supervisor, Dr Laura O’Sullivan.

Éabha's project is a national cross-sectional study evaluating trends among registered oral surgeons with respect to treatment planning for the high-risk mandibular third molar, with a particular focus on selection of cone beam CT imaging versus coronectomy.

Congratulations to Dr Claire Curtin, Specialist/Lecturer in Special Care Dentistry, who has been awarded Second Place in the Senior Clinical category of the Hatton Award at the International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) General Session, held in San Diego from 25–28 March 2026.

Claire’s award-winning research, “Oral Health and Care Practices in an Irish Residential Facility,” was recognised for its strong clinical relevance and contribution to the field. Her research was supervised by Professor Martina Hayes (UCC), Professor Gerry McKenna (QUB) and Dr Francis Burke (UCC), with additional contributions from Dr Danielle McGeown and Dr Elizabeth Moloney.

The Hatton Award is an international competition that recognises excellence among early-career researchers in dental science and attracts exceptional candidates from leading institutions worldwide. Claire’s achievement reflects both the quality of her work and its impact within a highly competitive field. She represented the Irish Division at the General Session, having previously won the Irish Division Postgraduate Research Award in Barcelona in June 2025.

This success highlights the strength of ongoing research in Special Care Dentistry and is a proud achievement for both Claire and her supervisors.

Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) has announced Finbarr Allen as the 2026 recipient of the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Behavioral, Epidemiologic, and Health Services Research. Allen, from University College Cork, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 104th General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the 55th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research and the 50th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research on March 25-28, 2026 in San Diego, CA, USA.
Allen has been an officer of the IADR Geriatric Oral Research Group and other IADR Scientific Research Groups for many years. He currently serves as a Professor and Consultant in Oral Rehabilitation & Restorative Dentistry at University College Cork, Ireland. His research centers on enhancing the quality of life for the elderly, with a particular emphasis on evaluating the outcomes of interventions related to health-related quality of life, oral comfort, and nutrition.
Allen has successfully led numerous randomized clinical trials and population health studies. Additionally, he has developed innovative methods for interpreting health-related quality of life data in clinical trials. To date, he has published more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers and research abstracts in dental literature, along with two textbooks and eleven book chapters. Previously, he received the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Geriatric Oral Research in 2011 and the IADR Distinguished Service Award in 2025.
The IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Behavioral, Epidemiological, and Health Services Research is designed to stimulate and recognize outstanding achievements in the areas of behavioral science and health services research as they relate to dentistry and is one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards and it is one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR.
