Some symptoms are easy to put off, but getting specialist advice early can bring clarity and peace of mind. Changes in bladder habits, discomfort, urgency, getting up frequently at night, or difficulty passing urine can be frustrating to live with and easy to dismiss. But these symptoms are worth paying attention to.
Common urology symptoms can include:
β€ Needing to pass urine more often
β€ Getting up during the night to p*e
β€ Sudden or urgent need to go
β€ Difficulty starting to p*e
β€ Weak flow
β€ Stopping and starting while passing urine
β€ Feeling like your bladder has not fully emptied
β€ Pain or burning when passing urine
β€ Pelvic, testicular or lower abdominal discomfort
β€ Leaking urine
β€ Blood in the urine
Many of these symptoms are common, particularly as men get older, but that does not mean they should be ignored or simply accepted as normal. Some may be linked to an enlarged prostate, urinary infection, bladder concerns, prostatitis, kidney stones or other urological conditions. The important thing is not to self-diagnose or put off seeking advice, especially if symptoms are new, persistent or affecting your daily life.
Blood in the urine should always be checked, even if it only happens once or there is only a small amount. If you are unable to pass urine, or you have severe pain or feel very unwell, seek urgent medical help.
