June is PTSD Awareness Month
When someone develops Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, their brain and body can continue to respond as though danger is still present - even long after the traumatic experience has ended.
Trauma can come from many different experiences, including abuse, violence, accidents, military combat, bereavement, bullying, neglect, workplace trauma, difficult childhood experiences, relationship trauma, or repeated situations where someone felt unsafe, trapped, powerless, or overwhelmed.
People living with PTSD or Complex-PTSD may experience flashbacks, nightmares, panic attacks, hypervigilance, sensory overwhelm, difficulty concentrating, memory problems, emotional distress, or a constant feeling of being unsafe - even in everyday situations.
These symptoms can make travelling, shopping, attending appointments, or being in busy public places incredibly challenging.
That’s why we were proud to work alongside PTSD UK and members of their community to co-create dedicated PTSD and C-PTSD Sunflower cards - helping people discreetly signal that they may need extra understanding, patience, support, or space.
Because not every disability is visible.
