🌿 How can I move with the rhythm of my day?

We often organise our lives according to what needs to be done.

The alarm goes off. Work begins. Meetings happen. Meals fit somewhere in between.

And we keep going until the day is finished. But our body has its own rhythm too. Our energy, concentration, appetite and need for rest naturally change across the day.The challenge is that modern life doesn't always give us the freedom to follow those rhythms perfectly. And I don't think we need to.

Returning to rhythm isn't about creating another perfect routine. It's about becoming more aware of ourselves within the life we already have. Maybe you can't change your working hours, but you can step outside for a few minutes of daylight. Maybe you can't rest when your energy dips, but you can pause between meetings, stretch, breathe, drink some water or choose a less demanding task when possible. Maybe your evenings have become another extension of your working day, and your body needs a clearer signal that it's time to slow down.

These are small things. But small things, repeated regularly, can help us develop a different relationship with our energy. So rather than asking: “How can I be productive all day?” Perhaps ask: “What does my body need at different times of my day?”

You don't need to follow someone else's perfect routine. Start by noticing your own rhythm.

🌿 When do you feel most energetic—and when does your energy naturally begin to dip?

06/10/2026

Your body lives in rhythm.

We often organise our lives around the clock.
Meetings at 9.
Lunch at 1.
Finish work at 5.
Bed at 11.

But underneath the clock on the wall, there is another kind of clock quietly working within us.
Our energy changes.
Our appetite changes.
Our concentration changes.
Our need for activity and rest changes.

Modern science explores this through circadian rhythms. Traditional Chinese Medicine developed another framework, the traditional Body Clock, or Zi Wu Liu Zhu, for understanding the relationship between time, bodily functions and daily life.

They are different ways of looking at the body, and one doesn't prove the other. But placing these different lenses alongside each other invites a beautiful question: What happens when we stop expecting our body to perform exactly the same way all day—and start noticing its patterns instead?

For the next few days, don't try to fix your rhythm. Just become curious about it.

🌿 When does your energy naturally rise—and when does your body ask you to slow down?

This is where our next part of Returning to Rhythm begins.

You Cannot Keep Withdrawing Without Depositing 🧐

Think about your energy like a bank account. Every day, we make withdrawals.
Working. Thinking. Planning. Looking after other people. Worrying. Solving problems. Being available. Rushing from one thing to the next.
Some withdrawals are necessary. They are simply part of living. But what happens when we keep withdrawing and rarely put anything back? Eventually, the account begins to run low.

I think we sometimes treat our own energy very differently from the way we would treat our finances. We notice when money is running out. But we don't always notice when we are running out. And a deposit doesn't always have to mean taking a day off or going on holiday.

It might be ten quiet minutes. A proper meal. Going outside. Movement. Sleep. Saying no to something. Talking to someone you trust. Doing something simply because you enjoy it. Or allowing yourself to rest without feeling that you first have to earn it.

This connects beautifully with the idea of Yin and Yang that I shared earlier this week. Life requires Yang — movement, activity, doing and giving. But it also requires Yin — rest, nourishment, receiving and restoration. We need both.

Perhaps balance isn't about doing less of everything. Sometimes it's simply about remembering to put something back in.

🌿 So today, I want to leave you with one question:
What helps you make a deposit into your own energy?

29/09/2026

What's it like to keep withdrawing?

How do you deposit your energy? Be curious 🙂

Doing vs Restoring, what do you notice?

☯️ Yin & Yang in everyday life

We often think of Yin and Yang as an ancient Chinese symbol. But for me, one of the simplest ways to understand it is through our everyday lives.

There are times for doing, working, thinking, moving, creating, giving, connecting.
And there are times for restoring, sleeping, resting, receiving, slowing down, becoming quiet. We need both.

The problem isn't activity itself. The question is whether there is enough restoration to support it. Sometimes our lives can become very Yang: Do more. Achieve more.
Keep going. Stay busy. Be productive.

And Yin gets pushed further and further away: I'll rest later. I'll slow down when things aren't so busy. I'll take care of myself when I have more time.

But activity and restoration were never meant to be enemies. They are a relationship.
Doing needs being. Giving needs receiving. Activity needs restoration.

And balance doesn't mean spending exactly half your life doing and half resting. Life moves. Our needs change. Sometimes we simply need to notice which direction we've been moving in for too long.

So here's a little reflection for today: Which side has had more space in your week, doing or restoring? And what might bring just a little more balance?

This relationship between Yin and Yang is one of the foundations we explore in Returning to Rhythm.
Not as something distant or complicated, but as something we are already living every day.

🏃 You do not need to become someone else.

There is so much pressure around us to improve ourselves.

Be healthier. Be calmer. Be more productive. Think more positively. Do more. Become more.

But what if we started somewhere else?

Not with:
“What is wrong with me?”

But with:
“What can I understand about myself?”

Sometimes self-awareness isn't about changing ourselves at all. It's noticing.

How do I respond when I'm stressed?

What happens in my body when I'm overwhelmed?

What gives me energy?

What drains me?

What am I feeling?

What do I need?

And can I listen to those answers without immediately judging them?

This is something very close to the heart of "Returning to Rhythm".

The course isn't about teaching you how to become someone else.

It's about helping you listen more deeply to the person you already are.

🌿 Perhaps you don't need another version of yourself. Perhaps you need a deeper relationship with yourself.

What would change if you approached yourself with curiosity instead of judgement?

🌿 The Myth of Pushing Through

How often do we tell ourselves:

Keep going.
Be strong.
I’ll rest later.
Just get through today.

Sometimes we’ve been doing it for so long that we don’t even notice we’re pushing anymore.

Our body may be asking for rest. Our emotions may be asking for space. Our mind may be asking us to slow down.

And yet our automatic response is often:

“Just keep going.”

But what if slowing down doesn’t mean giving up?

What if listening to yourself is also a form of strength?

You don’t have to change everything today.

Maybe just notice:

Where am I pushing through when I actually need to listen?

👂 Perhaps the opposite of pushing through is not giving up… perhaps it is learning to listen.

This is one of the ideas at the heart of my upcoming course, Returning to Rhythm.

More to come. 💫

Why do we feel the way we do? 🤔

We often try to change our habits without understanding the foundation. But true wellbeing starts with understanding the interaction between our mind, body, and nervous system.

I’m bridging the gap between Traditional Chinese Medicine, neuroscience, and psychotherapy in my new course: The Missing Puzzle: Returning to Rhythm.

This isn't about changing who you are. It's about understanding yourself better.
