Our physiotherapist Aran joined up with and had a great time promoting runners health and injury prevention. He took a warm up with the group and answered questions regarding running, injuries and tips and tricks to stay injury free, while also promoting our new service - injury screening for runners.

The goal of our injury screening assessment for runners is to identify injuries in runners before they occur so that the person can continue their training without having to stop due to pain. If someone is able to stay consistent on their running plan without having to take time off to rehabilitate injuries, then they can continue to progress to their desired goals injury free!

After the assessment, we then provide people with a detailed plan to work on their weaknesses before they become an issue, stopping the injury before it happens. We also work closely with runners who currently have injuries and require rehabilitation to get back to training.

If you know someone who would be interested in an injury screening before they start training or if they have already started and are struggling with a current injury, then you can DM us or send an email to [email protected].

Thanks to for letting us join their great team for the evening, it is a friendly, welcoming environment to start training and gradually build towards your goals while benefiting your health and well being.

Ever wonder how much exercise you should do per week to stay fit and healthy?

Below are the ACSM guidelines to gain health benefits from exercise such as improved cardiovascular health, increased bone density, improvements in muscle, tendon, joint and ligament health, improved cognitive function, maintenance of independence and longevity.

- Aerobic exercise (cardio) is any exercise that increases our heart rate and breath rate for an extended period of time. Examples of this is running, cycling, swimming, brisk walking and most sports. The guidelines suggest we should be doing 150 minutes minimum per week (20 minutes everyday) at a moderate intensity (increased breath rate but still able to hold a conversation) to gain the health benefits. If you cannot currently do this, start with what you are comfortable with and gradually build up to 150 minutes over time.

- Resistance training (weights/strength training) should be done at least twice per week focused on the upper body, core and lower body. You should aim to have 4-6 exercises per session with 2-3 sets of 8-12 reps. Again, if you don’t have much experience start small and gradually build up to this level.

- Flexibility and/or mobility training can be done when necessary to improve range of motion in stiff regions but does not have to be part of weekly routine for health benefits.

Luckily, at Physio Strength Therapy we offer classes every week that target these key areas of health and longevity to keep everyone active and living their best lives!

You can check out our timetable on the last slide and book in for an exercise assessment at www.physiostrengththerapy.ie or send us a DM.

See you all in the exercise classes!

We are happy to announce that we are now offering a new service for people who are looking to prevent injuries and improve longevity in running and/or athletics.

Whether you are running a 5km or a full marathon, if you are experienced or just do it for fun, it is vital to stay injury free in any scenario. Our injury screening will assess key areas that can predict the risk of injury and provide a detailed plan to prevent the injury before it happens, allowing you to keep running injury free. The training plan will also help improve performance, health and longevity while tailoring it to an individual’s specific needs.

What an injury screening involves:
- Muscle strength testing of the hip, knee and ankle using our handheld dynamometer, giving accurate, objective results on where you may be weak or strong.

- Muscle endurance testing involves understanding how long your muscles can work at a good level without fatiguing.

- Plyometric testing to understand how efficiently you produce power and velocity while you move.

- Biomechanical assessment to understand how an individual moves

- Understanding other factors including training load, recovery, sleep, stress and nutrition which all have been shown to have major roles in staying injury free.

The results will give you a deeper understanding of your weak and strong points while predicting your current risk of injury. We then provide a tailored program specific to you, to aid in preventing injury and improving performance!

If you are interested in the injury screening or may know someone who could be interested, you can book via the following link:
