I am excited to be part of the ISEFT Global Community event talking about all things Social Justice and JEDI in therapy.

I will be sharing my personal experiences and the professional journey that led me to prioritize social justice in the therapy room.

And it’s always amazing to be speaking alongside such an amazing group of colleagues: Robert Elliott, Michael Boiger, and Dominique Mertens.

It’s a global and free (for isEFT members) event.

Hope to see some of you there!

A bit of a ‘pinch me’ moment recently. ✨

I recently had the privilege of guest lecturing at Trinity College Dublin. Not too long ago, I sat in the chairs in Trinity. Though this time I was lecturing about something that is so meaningful and close to my heart: practicing social justice in the therapy room and creating genuinely spaces to explore the impact of marginality on people.

For a long time, the therapy world treated ‘symptoms’ without looking at the unjust systems causing them. It was brilliant work with this cohort of future psychologists and see them so incredibly engaged, asking brilliant questions, and caring so deeply about being part of a systemic change... it gave me so much hope.

Therapy has to be a place where all of you: your identities, your background, your culture, all of you - is not just ‘tolerated,’ but deeply understood and only by actively including social justice into our work we can make this happen.

The future of mental health is looking bright. To more of this! 🏳️‍🌈🌍

Quick Update on the Q***r Men’s Group 🏳️‍🌈

I’m really excited about the cohort coming together for the February group. We nearly have a full group!

To keep the group balanced and intimate, I am capping the space at 8 participants.

We have 2 spots left 🙌

If you have been thinking about it but haven’t reached out yet, now is the time. I’ll be closing applications once we hit capacity to ensure we can start on time.

NEW: Q***r Men & Masculinity Therapy Group (Dublin) 🏳️‍🌈

Navigating the world as a q***r man or masculine person comes with unique layers of complexity. Whether it’s the pressure to perform "masculinity," the isolation of transition, or the challenge of finding genuine intimacy outside of sexualised spaces, you don’t have to do it alone.

This is a "Brave Space" designed for: ✨ Cisgender Men ✨ Transgender Men ✨ Non-Binary Masculine Folks

I am inviting you to join my new process group, starting in February!

There is no set agenda. While I may suggest topics to explore—such as navigating relationships, positive masculinity, the impact of injustice, or life in Ireland as a q***r person—ultimately, the group decides its focus. The work is to explore the topics that the members themselves decide to bring into the light.

Unlike a drop-in social circle, this is a closed, confidential cohort. With 6 sessions over 12 weeks, we will move beyond surface-level chat to explore identity, relationships, and resilience.

📍 Location: Dublin City Centre (In-Person)
🗓 When: Tuesday Evenings (Fortnightly)
⏳ Format: 6 Sessions over 12 Weeks
💼 Led by: Dr. Tim van Wanrooij

Apply Now: Spaces are limited to 8 participants to ensure safety and depth. Click the link in my bio to read more and book your free consultation.

It’s a vulnerable feeling, to be in front of a packed room to talk about something that is so deeply important to you. For years, the topic of making therapy truly inclusive has been close to my heart, and this past year, I’ve been lucky enough to find other clinicians who share this passion.

Teaming up with the brilliant Robert Elliot, Dominique Mertens, Lou Cooper and Kurt Renders for our talk at the isEFT (international society for Emotion Focused Therapy) conference last week, felt like a culmination of so many conversations!
To see the room filled with people who were eager, reflective, and asking such thoughtful questions… it was confirmation of something I’ve long believed: we are all ready for this shift to make EFT and Person-Centred therapies more inclusive!

We are still far from true equity in the therapy world, but the growing number of conversations around cultural adaptations and minority experiences fills me with so much hope. A shift is happening, and I’m so grateful to be a small part of it. ✨

Did you know that 14 countries still criminalise the gender identity and expression of transgender people?

In 14 countries, trans people can be arrested simply for how they express themselves.

Laws against “cross-dressing,” “impersonation,” and “disguise” are used to criminalise gender identity. In many other countries, trans people are targeted under broader laws related to same-sex activity, vagrancy, hooliganism, or public order.

These laws do not just police clothing or appearance. They punish identity. They legitimise violence. They erase people.

It’s easy to forget these numbers.

But they matter. They represent real lives and real harm.

This is why we still need Pride.

Because authenticity should never be a crime.

Did you know that 12 countries still carry the death penalty for private, consensual same-sex intimacy?

Twelve countries. Just for who you love.

In 6 of them, the death penalty is actually enforced.

In the other 6, it remains a legal possibility.

Countries where it is implemented include Iran, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Yemen, and parts of Nigeria.

In others — like Afghanistan, Brunei, Mauritania, Pakistan, Qatar, the UAE, and Uganda — it is still written into law.

It’s easy to forget these numbers.

But they are real. They are horrifying.

This is why we still need Pride.

Not because we want attention.

But because lives are on the line.

Did you know that 41 countries still criminalise private, consensual sexual activity between women?

While many laws specifically target intimacy between men, 41 countries also criminalise intimacy between women. This is one more country than 12 months ago…

In total, 65 countries criminalise LGBTQIA+ people. That number has increased — not decreased.

In some places, “criminalised” means one year in prison. In others, five, twenty, or life. Some countries still use physical punishment like whipping or stoning. Others impose heavy fines.

These laws don’t just punish people for who they love. They feed fear, shame, violence, and silence.

It’s easy to forget these numbers.

But they are real. They are devastating.

This is why we still need Pride.

Not because progress hasn’t been made.

But because equality still isn’t real for everyone.

Did you know that 65 countries still criminalise consensual, private same-sex intimacy?

That’s one more than last year. The number has gone up, not down.

In 65 countries, being LGBTQIA+ can still mean breaking the law. Simply for being intimate with someone.

In some places, that means one year in prison. In others, five, twenty, or even life. Some countries use physical punishment like flogging or stoning. Others impose heavy fines.

Most of these laws specifically target consensual same-sex relationships between men, but they harm the entire LGBTQIA+ community.

These numbers are easy to forget.

But the impact is impossible to ignore.

This is why we still need Pride.

Not because progress hasn’t happened.

But because too many are still living in fear.
