There’s a stage of life nobody really prepares you for.
You’re still working.
Still raising your kids.
Still trying to keep the house going.
Still trying to be a good partner, friend, daughter, sister…
And then suddenly, you’re worrying about your parents too.
They’re getting older.
They’re getting sick.
They might need more care.
They might be going into a nursing home.
And you’re trying to hold all of it.
I’ve had several women in with me this week who are living exactly this.
And what really struck me was this:
They had made the decision to take an hour for themselves.
Not because everything was sorted.
Not because they had nothing else to do.
But because they knew they needed it.
And honestly… I think that’s huge.
Because we can get so used to putting ourselves last that taking an hour for ourselves can actually feel selfish.
It isn’t.
And I’m saying this from personal experience too. My own dad has recently gone into a nursing home, and he hasn’t been great this week either.
So I know that feeling of carrying worry about someone you love while still getting up every morning and carrying on with everything else.
Sometimes you don't need to be told to “manage your time better.”
Sometimes you just need someone to say:
This is a lot.
You’re allowed to find it hard.
And you’re allowed to take care of yourself too.
You don't have to wait until you're completely burnt out before you decide that you matter too. ❤️
If this is the stage of life you're in too, I see you.
Save this as your reminder that taking an hour for yourself isn't selfish.
