Pilates is an exercise system that strengthens the core muscles of the spine, pelvis, neck and shoulder girdle. At First Physio Plus we teach clinical Pilates based on findings in spinal stability research and all classes are only taught by chartered physiotherapists. Research has shown that the muscles responsible for supporting the spine are the very muscles that stop working in the presence of pain. Other muscles compensate and become tight and the new compensatory movement patterns themselves can lead to more pain and wearing of the tissues. Getting the right muscles to work again is often the key to long lasting relief and preventing recurring pain. What are the effects?
• Improved posture
• Corrects muscle imbalances
• Tones without adding bulk
• Improves balance and coordination
• Balances strength with flexibility
• Eases pain associated with poor posture/ weak core muscles/ hypermobility/ muscle imbalance
• Improves sports performance eg. Greater force transfer from lower to upper limbs through a stable trunk
All classes at First Physio Plus are limited to 6 which ensures everyone gets sufficient supervision and correct instruction.
