One thing I learned through my own excision surgery is just how easy it is to forget information when you're feeling anxious.
Even if your surgeon explains everything clearly (as they should), it's completely normal to walk out of an appointment and think... "I wish I'd asked that."
That's why I'm such a big believer in writing your questions down before your pre-op appointment and taking someone with you if you can. A second pair of ears can make a huge difference and perhaps even record with their permission.
Some of the conversations you have before surgery may feel daunting. Depending on your individual situation, your surgeon may discuss the possibility of more complex procedures if endometriosis involves organs such as the bowel or bladder.
These discussions aren't meant to frighten you, they're an important part of making sure you understand the potential risks, benefits, and treatment options before giving your consent.
Before you leave the hospital, make sure you feel clear on the practical side of recovery too.
✨ How should you care for your wounds?
✨ What symptoms are expected?
✨ What signs should prompt you to seek medical advice?
✨ When is your follow-up appointment?
✨ Who should you contact if you're worried before then?
You don't need to remember everything by heart. Ask for written information if it's available, and don't hesitate to ask someone to repeat or explain something if you're unsure.
