Does any of this sound familiar?

Your child is well able to communicate what they want or need without their AAC device.

So it feels easier to leave it down and follow their lead.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that at all!

It makes sense, it’s quicker and easier for your child to request things that way.

But the thing to remember about AAC is that it’s not just a tool for requesting.

🌟 It’s a total communication tool, meaning it can be used in so many different ways.

While it’s frustrating at the start and you might feel slow to use it or like you keep making mistakes, that’s all part of it.

By showing your child you’re using it, even if you make a mistake, you’re reinforcing to them that it’s ok to try. ✨️

It takes time and practice, but if you want to build your confidence surrounded by a community of parents and carers with access to me in our WhatsApp group…

In case you didn’t know, Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) or Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia (DVD) is a motor speech disorder.

It affects how the brain plans and coordinates movements needed for speech.

Which can look like:
👉 The same word being pronounced differently each time
👉 Longer words and phrases causing difficulty
👉 An unusual rhythm in how words sound

Many children benefit from AAC, whether as a support or their primary communication method.
