South Dublin Podiatry At South Dublin Podiatry Clinic we help patients of all ages to keep active & do the things they love How Can We Help You?

Podiatrists at South Dublin Podiatry Clinic are health care professionals specialised in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of abnormal foot and lower limb conditions. We help in relieving pain, treating infections and keeping people mobile and active. We are passionate about delivering high quality podiatric care to support your individual needs. South Dublin Podiatry Clinic’s ow

ner, Wioleta Walczak, graduated with a BSc (Hons) Podiatry degree from Galway University. She is a member of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists of Ireland and maintains her professional development by attending courses and conferences. Since graduation, she has worked in a number of private practices, hospitals and nursing homes giving her a great experience in both private and public settings. Her special area of interest includes sports podiatry and treatment of fungal nail infections. You may want to see a podiatrist or a chiropodist for advice and treatment if you experience pain in your feet, have thickened or discoloured toenails, cracks in the skin, abnormal growths, your feet sweat excessively or if you experience any other foot related problem. Our podiatrists can also provide orthotics which are custom-made 3D printed insoles, also known as arch supports, to relieve foot, knee or hip pains. Orthotic devices are placed in your shoes. Their purpose is to re-align your foot, take pressure off vulnerable areas, or simply to make your shoes more comfortable. We can also help you with more complex foot problems including preventing, diagnosing and treating sports and exercise injuries. Even if you feel your feet are generally in a good condition, you may consider one Podiatry/ Chiropody session to have hard skin removed from the soles of your feet, have your toenails clipped, get some advice regarding footwear you are wearing or to simply see if you are looking after your feet properly. The clinic is located at 114 Sundrive Rd, Crumlin, D12 TDX8. It is easily accessible with bus lines 9 and 18 and there is plenty of parking spaces available.

Travelling with diabetes requires a little extra preparation, especially when it comes to your feet. 👣✈️

Long walks, different climates, and busy travel schedules can increase the risk of blisters, injuries, and foot complications. Taking a few simple precautions can help keep your feet healthy throughout your trip.

✔️ Pack a foot care kit
✔️ Wear comfortable, supportive footwear
✔️ Check your feet daily
✔️ Avoid walking barefoot
✔️ Keep your feet clean and moisturised
✔️ Seek medical advice if you notice any wounds or signs of infection

A few minutes of foot care each day can help prevent problems and allow you to enjoy your travels with confidence.

Barefoot Around the Pool: What Are the Risks? 🏊‍♀️🦶

Walking barefoot around the pool might feel natural, but it can expose your feet to more than just cool water and sunshine.

🦠 Fungal Infections

Pool decks, changing rooms, and communal showers provide the warm, damp conditions that fungi love. Walking barefoot in these areas can increase your risk of developing athlete's foot and other fungal infections.

🪒 Plantar Warts

The virus that causes plantar warts can survive on wet surfaces. Bare feet coming into contact with contaminated floors may increase the likelihood of developing these painful lesions.

🩹 Cuts and Scrapes

Rough surfaces, sharp edges, or small debris around pool areas can cause minor injuries. Even small cuts can become problematic if bacteria enter the skin.

🧫 Bacterial Infections

Prolonged exposure to water can soften the skin, making it more vulnerable to infection. Damaged or cracked skin provides an easy entry point for bacteria.

⚠️ Slips and Falls

Wet poolside surfaces can be extremely slippery. Wearing appropriate footwear can help reduce the risk of falls and related injuries.

🩴 Protect Your Feet

A simple pair of pool shoes or flip-flops can help protect your feet from infections, injuries, and slips while enjoying the water.

Healthy feet help keep you active all summer long. If you're experiencing foot pain, skin changes, or signs of infection, speak with your podiatrist for professional advice.

Why Ingrown Toenails Flare Up Before Summer ☀️

As the weather gets warmer, we often see more patients struggling with painful ingrown toenails.

But why does this happen?

👟 Increased walking, running & exercise
👡 Tight summer footwear and sandals rubbing the toes
💦 More sweating and swelling in warm weather
✂️ Incorrect nail cutting before “sandal season”

An ingrown toenail can quickly become painful, red, swollen, and even infected if left untreated.

Signs to watch for:
Tenderness around the nail
Redness or swelling
Pain when wearing shoes
Discharge or signs of infection

Early treatment can help prevent ongoing pain and infection.

If you notice symptoms developing, don’t ignore them before your summer holidays or training season begins.

Our feet can still smell even after showering because bacteria love warm, sweaty spaces. Tiny little goblins thriving between your toes despite modern hygiene. Civilization peaked and somehow we still have “foot cheese ecosystem” as a medical concern.

Sweat itself doesn’t smell, but when it mixes with bacteria trapped in shoes, socks, and damp skin, the odor starts. The good news: it’s usually easy to manage with proper foot care.

👣 Tips to help:
• Change socks daily
• Let shoes dry properly between wears
• Wash and dry between toes carefully
• Use breathable footwear when possible
• Seek professional advice if the smell is persistent or severe

Healthy feet matter more than people think. Your feet carry you through life while receiving mostly neglect and questionable footwear choices.

Thinking about walking the Camino this year? 🥾👣

Whether you’re planning a few days or the full journey, preparing your feet properly before a long-distance walk can make all the difference. The Camino involves many hours of walking day after day, and without the right preparation, small issues like blisters, heel pain, nail damage or muscle strain can quickly become much bigger problems.

A few simple things can help:
• Wear supportive footwear that has already been broken in
• Increase your walking distance gradually before your trip
• Choose good quality socks to reduce friction
• Don’t ignore early signs of pain or discomfort
• Consider a podiatry assessment before you travel

At South Dublin Podiatry, we regularly help patients prepare for walking holidays, hiking trips and long-distance challenges by assessing foot mechanics, footwear and pressure points to help reduce the risk of injury along the way.

Your feet are carrying you across an entire country. Tiny detail humans somehow overlook until the second blister appears and suddenly walking becomes a spiritual experience for all the wrong reasons.

Buen Camino 💛

🏇 Shockwave Therapy & Horseracing

Horseracing is a high-impact sport that demands strength, balance, and endurance. The repetitive strain placed on the feet, ankles, and lower limbs can often lead to chronic pain and overuse injuries, especially for jockeys who spend long periods in a forward-leaning, high-pressure position.

Common issues we see include:
• Plantar fasciitis
• Achilles tendinopathy
• Heel pain
• Forefoot overload
• Soft tissue inflammation

Shockwave Therapy is an advanced, non-invasive treatment designed to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. It works by delivering acoustic waves into the affected tissue, helping to:
✔️ Increase blood circulation
✔️ Break down scar tissue
✔️ Stimulate cell regeneration
✔️ Reduce chronic pain

This makes it particularly effective for stubborn conditions that haven’t responded to traditional treatments.

At South Dublin Podiatry, we use shockwave therapy to help patients recover faster, improve mobility, and return to their daily activities or sport with confidence.

You don’t need to be a professional athlete to benefit. If you’re experiencing ongoing foot or heel pain, this treatment could be the solution.

Massive thanks to Paul Kinkaid and Emily Kinkaid for organising the day and travelling over from Southampton to deliver it — it was fantastic ✨
