We were delighted to take part in the Irish Homeless Street Leagues annual competition in Tallaght recently, with 45 of our clients—men and women from Dublin and Limerick—coming together for a fantastic day of sport and connection.

It was a privilege to welcome Stephen Kenny, who took the time to speak with our clients and offer his encouragement and support.
A huge congratulations to our Limerick women’s team, who proudly brought home the cup, and to those players who have been selected to travel to Brazil this August to represent Ireland at the Homeless World Cup—an incredible achievement we are all so proud of.

The day also held special significance for us as we remembered our dear colleague Paul Hatton, who passed away on the day of the league. Paul dedicated 45 years to Coolmine and was instrumental in introducing our clients to the Street Leagues over 20 years ago. On the day, we acknowledged his unwavering commitment to giving people second chances—his legacy continues to inspire us all.

We were delighted to see so many of our clients take part and thrive, and we look forward to sharing updates on their journey to Brazil later in the year

Coolmine were delighted to welcome funders, local stakeholders and friends to the official launch of Teaghlach: Coolmine Family Service in Cork on June 8. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with community, statutory and healthcare partners and showcase this important new support for families impacted by addiction.

The event marked a significant milestone for family-focused services in the region, highlighting the growing need for community-based, therapeutic supports that work with the whole family. Guests had the chance to meet the multidisciplinary team, tour the purpose-designed space in Gurranabraher and learn more about the range of evidence-based interventions available.

Funded by HSE Drug and Alcohol Services and the Cork and Kerry Drug and Alcohol Task Force, Teaghlach provides a wraparound, trauma-informed service supporting parents, children and caregivers. Through approaches such as Parenting Under Pressure (PUP), play therapy and art therapy, the service is already helping families strengthen relationships, build resilience and support recovery.

We are grateful for the strong support shown on the day and look forward to continuing to work with local partners to ensure families across Cork can access the care they need. Teaghlach represents hope, healing and a shared commitment to breaking cycles of addiction through compassionate, family-centred support.

Javier, Gemma, Alan, and Isabel were delighted to attend the launch of the new Community Hub in Parkside, Dublin 13, alongside Vanessa H***e, Prevention Education Co-Ordinator with the Dublin North East Drug and Alcohol Task Force.

The event was attended by Hildegarde Naughton TD, Minister for Education and Youth, as well as representatives from Clúid Housing, the YMCA, and a range of community organisations.

The new hub is a fantastic collaborative initiative between Clúid and the YMCA, providing a dedicated space for young people and the wider community in an area where such facilities are greatly needed.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact this new community resource will have for local residents and families for years to come.

Recently, staff in our Mid-West services took part in training on Culturally Responsive Care in the Therapeutic Community, delivered by our colleague Richard Anekwe and Professor Anca Minescu from the University of Limerick.

Developed specifically for Coolmine, the training explored how we can continue to uphold the values of the Therapeutic Community while adapting our approach to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse client population.

The programme focused on promoting inclusion, cultural understanding, and responsive care, helping to ensure that everyone accessing our services feels welcomed, respected, and supported in their recovery journey.

We were also delighted to share this learning opportunity with our Erasmus+ students from Slovenia during their recent visit to Ireland.

We’re incredibly proud and excited to deepen our long-standing partnership with CJK through the launch of the Powering Recovery: CJK Opportunity Fund. This initiative reflects a shared commitment to supporting people in recovery as they rebuild their lives, creating meaningful pathways into education, training and sustainable employment.

Over the years, we’ve seen first-hand the life-changing impact this partnership can have. Many Coolmine participants have progressed into a verity of roles with CJK and gone on to build successful careers as skilled professionals. This new fund, valued at €100,000 over the next two years, will help remove financial and practical barriers, ensuring more people can access the opportunities they need to grow in confidence, sustain their recovery and achieve long-term independence.

Together with CJK, we believe in the importance of inclusive opportunities. We anticipate this opportunity fund will support up to 70-80 individuals over the next two years to take the next step in their journey and build brighter futures for themselves, their families and their communities.
