I realise that when someone chooses me as their surgeon, they are placing their trust in me, and I take the responsibility that this confers very seriously. Clear communication, a collaborative approach to decision making, and commitment to long-term follow-up are just some of my guiding principles. I see patients for cosmetic, reconstructive, and laser surgery. I also offer minimally-invasive and non-surgical treatments. I have received formal, recognised training in all aspects of my speciality, including time spent on internationally-recognised fellowship programmes in the UK and the Netherlands gaining experience and qualifications in aesthetic surgery and lasers. I am the only plastic surgeon practicing in Ireland who has undergone such extensive training in medical lasers. I have undertaken this level of training to allow me to offer the best care to my patients, and will never offer to perform a procedure that I do not believe in. If doing “Cobra” with aplomb isn’t a good result from a - I don’t know what is. We received this beautiful letter from one of our patients the other day, and to say it put a smile on our faces (& I’m not going to lie - a tear to the eye), is an understatement. This is an operation we know is proven to positively impact women’s quality of life, but hearing just how - and the obvious joy in this woman’s words, is a delight 🥰

Ms Fitzgerald is a consultant plastic, reconstructive, & aesthetic surgeon, working at the Beacon Hospital and the Surgical Institute Dublin.

She grew up in Co. Dublin, attending Holy Child Killiney, and subsequently studying medicine at University College Dublin. As an undergraduate, she was awarded the Harry Hynes scholarship, completing an elective in trauma surgery and oncology in Wichita, Kansas. In her Res year, she was the winner of the Student Prize in Anaesthesia, a fact she enjoys sharing with her anaesthesiology colleagues to this day.

Having graduated with a 2.1 degree, Éilís completed her intern year at St. Vincent’s University Hospital. She undertook her Basic Surgical Training at Tallaght University Hospital, achieving her Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons during that time. In 2004, and with the encouragement of Mr. Sean Tierney, who was a wonderful mentor and a true feminist to his core, she undertook her first role in plastic surgery, at Beaumont Hospital. Éilís was drawn to the speciality because of the variety of the caseload, the requirement for technical excellence, and the visual and artistic aspects of the work. Working under the excellent mentorship of Mr. Brian Kneafsey, it became clear that she had taken the definitive step in her career, and from that point forward, her focus was on pursuing a career in plastic surgery. To that end, she completed a Masters in Surgery at RCSI. Her research, which focused on chronic wound healing, was awarded the Poster Prize at the Sir Peter Freyer meeting.

That’s a wrap for 2023. It’s been our pleasure looking after our patients, and we look forward to seeing familiar and new faces (& boobs… sorry I couldn’t resist!) in 2023. Sometimes, the simplest of procedures, can have a very significant impact on a patient. This young woman had been bothered by a white lump on her lower lip for a number of years. Although benign, lesions like this can be really bothersome to patients & the decision to replace the lesion with a scar, is the right one for that person. The surgical markings are made to ensure that there is no mismatch of the vermilion border of the lip, and the scar is placed radially (from the inside to out), to avoid any thinning of the lip. The procedure is straightforward, taking about 15 minutes under local anaesthetic, with stitches removed a week later. After a month, the scar is inconspicuous at conversational distance, and the most noticeable thing about this patient’s mouth is her beautiful lip shape - which is all natural & for which I can take no credit!

Also known as , this procedure is designed to lift and reshape the breasts.
Whether as a result of ageing, weight loss, or pregnancy & breastfeeding, droopy breasts have a significant impact on the balance and proportions of the torso. Depending on the current and desired breast volume, this is a procedure that may involve the use of implants to add volume, or removal of breast tissue, to reduce volume (as was done in this case). Sometimes, where a woman is quite happy with the size, but not the shape, of her breasts, only a small amount of breast tissue and skin, requires to be removed, and the focus is entirely on reshaping the tissues.
At eight weeks post-op, my gorgeous patient is delighted with her result: the scars will settle and the slight tightening in the lower pole, visible in these pictures, will round out to give an even more natural contour.

Early result from surgery. This young woman came to see me, concerned regarding her breasts, which were too big and heavy for her frame. She was also concerned regarding the size of her areolas (the darker coloured skin around the ni**le). She had previously undergone an , with disappointing results & it took her a few years to build up the courage to have another operation.
Following a detailed consultation process during which we talked about goals for surgery & the anticipated outcome, the patient decided to proceed to breast reduction surgery.
Here she is at her first post-op visit, at 12 days after surgery, with the nurse. The surgical tapes have been removed, and the early scar formation is favourable. As expected, there is some bruising & swelling, but already the improved shape and size of the breast is apparent. Most importantly, the patient is delighted with how things look and feel. The upper back and neck pain she was experiencing pre-op have improved, and her words, her new breasts are “so cute” 🥰

surgery using breast implants.
This gorgeous patient came to see me in relation to her breasts, which were small and deflated after a few children. As you can see, she works incredibly hard at the gym, and has an enviable physique. Her breasts were the one bit that she could change despite how hard she works, and she thought long and hard about going ahead with surgery. She was very keen on a natural result, proportionate with her frame, and which did not look in any way fake.
Following a detailed consultation to establish the patient’s goals, 3D imaging using our system from was used to show her a simulated image of how she might look. Combined with external implant sizers (“chicken fillets!”), and advice from her mum 😁 she was able to communicate to me, exactly what she was looking for. We selected a 265cc moderate implant, placed over the muscle, and both she and I are delighted with the result.
