There is a lot of unfounded negative press surrounding the use of synthetic hormones. Much of this information comes from unqualified, non-medical sources.
While they are not suitable for everyone, traditional synthetic hormones have an important role in managing a range of gynaecological conditions. Potential side effects can be discussed during a medical consultation to help choose the option that is most appropriate for each individual patient.
These treatments can play an important role in managing PMDD, PMS, heavy menstrual bleeding and endometriosis. 🩺
They also provide highly effective contraception, which is an important consideration for the vast majority of women of reproductive age. 🌸
Synthetic does not mean more dangerous. It simply means that these hormones have a different chemical structure from the hormones naturally produced by our bodies.
Similarly, bioidentical does not necessarily mean natural. Bioidentical hormones are also produced in a laboratory; the term refers to their chemical structure being more similar to hormones produced by the body.
A good medical consultation should cover all appropriate treatment options, including their benefits, risks and potential side effects.
