National industrial action is scheduled to take place on 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟭𝟰 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲. If the industrial action proceeds, it is expected to have a significant impact on hospital services, with many planned appointments and procedures likely to be cancelled or postponed.

Patients and service users do not need to take any action at this time. All appointments should be attended as scheduled unless patients are contacted directly by the hospital.

We recognise that this may cause concern and inconvenience for patients and their families. The hospital's priority is to maintain safe patient care and keep those affected informed as plans are finalised.

We're delighted to share that St James's Hospital and the South Dublin Surgical Hub are among the first healthcare services in Ireland to receive the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲 (𝗚𝗧𝗔𝗦) award.

This national accreditation recognises hospitals that are reducing their environmental impact while continuing to provide safe, high-quality patient care.

The award reflects the work taking place across our surgical services to reduce waste, improve recycling, lower energy use and make our theatres more environmentally sustainable.

From introducing reusable theatre materials and energy-efficient upgrades to improving recycling practices and reducing unnecessary waste, our teams are helping to build a greener healthcare service for patients, staff and future generations.

If you're aged 25-50 and have experience of bowel, stomach, oesophageal, pancreatic, or another digestive cancer, you're invited to take part in a co-design workshop hosted by the Irish Cancer Society and the Trinity St James's Cancer Institute.

This workshop is an opportunity to share your experiences, insights and ideas to help improve future cancer support services for patients and families.

The event takes place 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟭𝟯 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 📅 from 𝟭𝟬.𝟯𝟬𝗮𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝟯𝗽𝗺. ⏰

**** UPDATE - Industrial Action Suspended ****

The planned industrial action by senior nurse managers linked grades, Advanced Nurse Practitioners on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, has been suspended.

We will continue to provide updates as they become available.

You may be aware that the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), FÓRSA and SIPTU have given notice of their intention to undertake national industrial action.

INMO, Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) will commence industrial action on Tuesday, 29 September. From Wednesday, 30 September, INMO members, along with colleagues in FÓRSA and SIPTU, will participate in national industrial action. The action by INMO and FÓRSA members will continue until further notice.

All ANP-led clinics scheduled for 29 September have been cancelled and all affected patients will be contacted directly regarding the rescheduling of their appointments.

We would like to reassure service users and families that the hospital is working to minimise disruption and maintain safe patient care throughout this period. Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
