Thank you, AGI - Accredited Genealogists Ireland, for sharing who I wish to look for first in the 1926 Census.
It is worth checking the AGI account each day, as members are sharing who they will be searching for when the census is released on 18 April 2026. It is the first census since the foundation of the Irish Free State.
Who will you search for first?

1926 Census Countdown: Who I Hope to Find
Today's contribution is from AGI memeber Jillian van Turnhout
I'll immediately search for my paternal grandmother Mary Catherine Foley, who would have been 21 in 1926 and presumably still in Cromane, Co. Kerry, to reveal her family circumstances before her mysterious appearance in Dublin for her 1930 marriage. My second priority is my paternal grandfather John Francis Hassett, who would have been 22 and likely working as a customs officer after his Irish Free State Army serviceβhis posting may explain his move from Clare to Dublin. Locating both families in 1926 could explain how two young people from Kerry and Clare ended up meeting and marrying in the capital. The 1926 Census would bridge the crucial gap between 1911 and their 1930 marriage, answering questions that remain unanswered since both died young in the 1940s. It's hard to pick favourites thoughβthis is just the beginning as I have a long list of ancestors and cannot wait for this release to fill in these vital missing pieces.
