For those of us living with Bipolar and supporting someone with Bipolar this is a huge challenge that we have been facing. As the article explains we are comfronted with a situation whose long term effects on Mental Health are unknown. We need to be more vigilant and aware of managing our own and our spouses mental health and reach out for professional help when we feel over whelmed.

The president-elect of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) says there has been up to a 25 per cent increase in referrals to mental health services.

It is interesting to note that should we have or are beginning to have a 4th wave the major outcome will be on mental illness. As such we have all gone through what can be described as a trauma. Initially we coped with mortality but as the Lockdowns continued, they slowly and silently eroded the availability of support for those with Mental Health challenges. By the 3rd wave chronic mental health conditions such as Bipolar, ADHD and Bipolar did not have the unbroken ongoing care they require. This was of course not intentional as all Healthcare workers were fighting at the Covid 19 Front. It is predicted that we have not as such seen the full mental health fallout. This includes not only those with diagnosed mental health conditions but also those who may have been strongly triggered by the Covid threat and developed Anxiety and Depression which may be going unrecognised. It does not even need to be that all of us have had an impact on our thoughts and feelings by Lockdowns and Covid. So be kind to yourself as the country reopens, keep the breathing work going and checking the helpfulness of your thoughts. We have all been in this together and all suffered in our own way.
