One of the things that has stayed with me since becoming a therapist is how many people tell me:
"I've never actually said this out loud before."
Not because they were hiding it.
But because nobody had ever slowed down long enough to truly listen.
Being heard without interruption, judgement, or someone trying to immediately fix you is a surprisingly rare experience.
Sometimes therapy isn't powerful because of the advice that's given.
Sometimes it's powerful because, for the first time, someone feels genuinely listened to.
When was the last time you felt truly heard?
