Practice what you preach - foam rolling before and after exercise. McDonald et al got good results from using the roller for just 2 minutes in the form of 2 x 1 minute sessions separated by a rest period of 30 seconds. Other research suggests between 1 and 5 minutes on each muscle group or working until a sensation of release is felt.

Foam rolling releases muscle knots, relieves inflammation, and improves overall comfort. It can also increase your range of motion, flexibility, and mobility while boosting circulation and lymphatic flow!

If your roof was leaking, would you spend all your time and money concentrating on the pool of water on your floor? 
Or would you assess and address the cause of the pool of water which is not on your floor at all?!
The most common mistake when we see clients who have “tried everything” are concentrating on the site of pain; thinking that is the main cause.

Continuous treatment costing hundreds of euros and no results undoubtedly leaves you feeling despondent.

If you're looking for the right exercise for you but cannot decide what to choose how about one that was born of many different schools of thought, such as Pilates. It encompasses relaxation, concentration, awareness of breath, alignment of the spine, strengthening of the deep core muscles as well as a whole body approach. Despite the stigma attached to pilates being ‘a women’s activity’ it was actually founded by a male!

Joseph Pilates, a young adult determined not to allow an unfortunate diagnosis of ill health decide the rest of his life, began educating himself on optimal health. He believed that “It's the mind self that builds the body.” He explored various techniques and schools of thought such as Zen Buddhism and Yoga.
He also trained and achieved peak physical fitness through activities such as Boxing, Wrestling, Gymnastics, Bodybuilding, Skiing and Diving. Through all his experience Contrology was born, which we now know as Pilates.
“Physical fitness is the first prerequisite to happiness” Joseph Pilates.

Dublin Marathon Finisher!!

Aine came to us after months of training feeling as though she might not be able to complete the marathon with the injury she had sustained. She had be around the block but was unable to get to the root of the problem. We were delighted to be able to get her right for the marathon and get her over the line! Even if you exercise, but spend a large amount of time sitting, you are still at a high risk of developing health problems such as metabolic syndrome. The latest research suggests that you need 60-70 minutes per day of exercise (moderate intensity) to combat the dangers of excessive sitting.
Metabolism slows down 90% after 30 minutes of sitting.
An average adult sits for 10 hours a day, 8 hours at work and 2 hours at home - and this has increased since working from home - we don’t even need to get out of the house!
Follow the 30:5 rule. After every 30 minutes get up, fetch a water bottle, go to the bathroom, walk up/ down the stairs , do anything at all to get the body moving!

TCM for Heat Rash
In Traditional Chinese medicine TCM they view things from a simplistic point of view. They just use different words and explanations which can lead to confusion sometimes.

🌋As humans we are all at the mercy of our environment, ideally we should be in a state of homeostasis. A state of balance among all the body systems needed for the body to survive and function correctly.

🌙When something external impacts our internal balance, our body shows signs and symptoms to indicate there is something out of balance. The weather, our diet, stresses and shock among many other things can throw this balance off.

🔥Getting caught in a shower on a cold windy day can lead to the sniffles. Staying out in the hot sun for too long can lead to sun stroke and our body will react to these external stressors.

🌟Our internal state can be impacted by e.g. spicy food. This can show on the exterior, someone may begin to sweat. If this is something that is out of balance over a longer period of time more chronic signs and symptoms can develop such as a skin rash which if treated only topically on the exterior will inevitably fail, rather than treating it as a reflection of the interior state.

🧘🏼‍♀️An acupuncturist can help you figure out where things maybe out of balance and you can discover certain lifestyle changes that will ensure you get back to homeostasis.
