There are 4 main features of the iCanCope PostOp Smartphone App - Check-in, Trends, Goals and The Library.

Here is a brief explanation of the Check-In feature:

Checking-in on the app consists of rating how you are recovering in 5 domains; Pain, Movement, Mood, Worry and Sleep.

Completing daily/weekly check-ins is how the app knows how the user's recovery is going and what they might need a little help with.

Based on these scores, the app will suggest articles from the app library - e.g. if someone registers as having severe pain after surgery, the app might recommend an article about psychological approaches to pain management.

The iCanCope PostOp Smartphone App study is an ongoing study to determine if the newly developed iCanCope PostOp Smartphone App can reduce pain and anxiety before and after surgery for teens undergoing surgery for Scoliosis and Limb Reconstruction.
Recruitment for the study is ongoing and we are looking for 12 - 18yr olds who will be having surgery for Scoliosis or Limb Reconstruction soon!
Can you help us? Are you someone who will be having surgery soon? Or will your child be having surgery soon?

Here is a brief explanation of the Trends feature from the iCanCope PostOp Smartphone App:
The Trends feature on the app allows users to view their check-in scores over time.
Users can review previous check-ins and visualize their progress over time in a graph format.
These scores can be viewed by week or by month and users can view scores for one check-in score - e.g. pain - or for two scores together - e.g. pain and movement.
This feature allows users to identify connections between e.g. pain and sleep, and troubleshoot problematic parts of their recovery.

Here is a brief explanation of the Library feature from the iCanCope PostOp Smartphone App:
The app library is a database of articles (some with complimentary audio files!) that are relevant to either Scoliosis or Limb Reconstruction patients - as well as many general articles that are relevant to both.
The app will suggest specific articles from the library based on how a user has checked-in - e.g., articles on sleep hygiene if a user has checked-in as having a bad nights sleep - or users can explore the library at their own leisure.
A lot of the articles were written by health care professionals specifically for the app, and cover a very wide range of topics (e.g., pain management, coping with stress, negative emotions, returning to school and sleep).
