Forty Weeks Natural health and training through pregnancy and beyond

Providing infant massage instructor training's and holistic care for fertility, pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period

11/10/2026

IAIM is an international community.

Our Instructors work across countries, cultures and languages, bringing infant massage to families in many different parts of the world.

The words we use may change.

The way families live may change.

Cultural traditions may change.

But babies still communicate through their bodies, and parents everywhere can learn to observe, listen and respond.

Connection may speak many languages.

An Instructor preparing the room.

A parent arriving with questions.

A baby deciding that today is definitely not the day for a massage. 😊

Another parent offering a reassuring smile.

A conversation during a break.

A new connection.

The experience of an IAIM course is made up of much more than the massage itself.

It is made of people.

✨ IAIM Trainers Meeting | Day 1 – Firenze 🇮🇹

A new day of connection, learning and shared inspiration begins in the heart of Italy ❤️

Our Trainers Meeting brings together people who share a common vision: supporting parents and strengthening the bond between babies and their caregivers through the power of nurturing touch.

A precious opportunity to exchange experiences, reflect on our work, share knowledge and grow together as an international community of IAIM trainers.

Because when we come together, we do more than share expertise: we renew our commitment to a world where every baby is welcomed with respect, tenderness and love. 💜

Long before babies understand words, they experience the world through their senses. Among these senses, touch plays a unique and powerful role.

The skin is the largest organ of the body and one of the first systems to develop during pregnancy. Through touch, babies begin learning about safety, comfort, connection, and relationships.

A warm embrace, gentle holding, skin-to-skin contact, and nurturing touch all contribute to a baby's experience of being cared for. These moments help create a foundation for emotional security and trust.

Infant massage provides parents with an opportunity to communicate through this first language. It encourages moments of focused attention and connection that support both baby and caregiver.

Touch is not only something we feel—it is also a way we communicate love, presence, and understanding.

In March 2020, the world changed almost overnight.

Families found themselves isolated. New parents navigated pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood without the support they had expected. Distance became a necessity, and many moments we once took for granted suddenly felt uncertain.

For an organisation built around nurturing touch, connection, and human relationships, this was an unprecedented challenge.

The International Association of Infant Massage faced a difficult question: How could we continue to support families when meeting together was no longer possible?

The answer required reflection, creativity, courage, and a willingness to explore new possibilities. Across the world, instructors, trainers, volunteers, and leaders worked together to create online classes, adapt training programmes, and ensure that families could continue to access support during a time of extraordinary uncertainty.

These changes were not simply about technology. They were about staying true to our mission when circumstances demanded something different from us.

The pandemic reminded us that while touch is at the heart of what we do, connection is even larger. Through screens, across countries, and despite physical distance, relationships continued to grow, parents continued to learn, and communities continued to support one another.

Today, as we look back, we remember the challenges and uncertainty. We also celebrate the resilience, innovation, and commitment that emerged during those years.

As the world has opened up again, we have also come to value in-person classes in a renewed way. There is something deeply meaningful about being physically present with families again—the shared space, the subtle cues, the warmth of human presence, and the unique quality of learning through touch and observation together.

The lessons learned continue to shape IAIM today, reminding us that even in the most difficult moments, our shared commitment to families can find new ways to flourish.

To everyone who helped carry our mission forward during that time: thank you.

Touch is one of the first ways a baby begins to organize their experience of the world.

In infant massage, sensory stimulation is not about adding more input, but about the quality of the interaction. It is not about increasing stimulation, but about observing how the baby integrates and responds to it.

Each baby has their own way of engaging with touch: some seek continuity, others move between openness and withdrawal, and some take time to observe before participating.

These differences are not something to correct, but expressions of a sensory system in development.

Massage can become a space where the baby experiences being an active part of the interaction, contributing to the rhythm and intensity of the experience.

Some books are meant to be shared before they are even kept.

When a book is consistently recommended and gifted, it means it has a real impact on people’s lives: it becomes part of a network of care and shared parenting experience.
