A lot of patients tell me they want to have more motivation to exercise. The truth? Motivation is like the weather—unpredictable and constantly changing.

What is reliable is action. Exercising—even when you don’t feel like it- creates small wins. Those wins build momentum. Momentum builds confidence. And before you know it, your mood has caught up with your actions.

Here are Top 5 Tips for Injury Prevention whether you are an athlete, a regular gym goer or just generally trying to stay injury free ✨

1. Sleep 8 hours a night
Sleep is when your body does the real recovery work. Sufficient sleep improves muscle repair, supports tissue healing, and helps you maintain joint and tendon health for long-term resilience

2. Strength train x2 weekly
Building strength increases tissue capacity and supports joint stability. It’s one of the most powerful tools for preventing both acute and overuse injuries.

3. Foam roll after exercise
Foam rolling helps release tension, improve blood flow, and reduce post-exercise soreness—especially valuable between tough sessions.

Did you know 10,000 steps has no real science behind it? It went viral based on a japenese pedometer marketing campaign.

Despite this, the research backs it up. In reality the health benefits of walking match the health benefits of moving.

If you don’t love walking, don’t stress- cycling, playing tennis, running, football, paddle, squash, swimming. All movement is good movement when we look at the benefits for our overall health.

The key takeaway is to limit long periods of inactivity.

If you are living a very sedentary life and you want to start walking more. There are still benefits to 4-6,000 steps daily. Start small and build 🫶

The Female Physio is now Ardú Physiotherapy — Ardú means rise in Irish, and that’s exactly what this change represents. ✨

There are a few exciting additions, including an in person clinic opening this September and expanded physiotherapy services for everyone.

There’ll still be a strong focus on women’s health, but you’ll also start seeing more MSK content and services too — from pain and injury to everyday movement.

Weight training or Pilates — which one’s right for you?

Both are amazing forms of exercise, but they have different effects depending on where you’re at in your fitness journey.

👉 Weight training gives your body external load — which means more stimulus for your muscles and bones. That’s essential for building strength, muscle mass, and supporting long-term bone density (especially as we age 🦴💪).

👉 Pilates, on the other hand, focuses on control, alignment, and core stability. It’s lower-impact, making it an excellent option during injury recovery, pregnancy, or postpartum, when you still want to move safely without overloading your system.

It’s not about one being “better” — it’s about what your body needs right now. Some seasons call for strength and load, others for stability and connection.
