🦶 Thickened or Overgrown Toenails?

Onychogryphosis and onychauxis are conditions that cause the toenails to become excessively thickened, hard and difficult to manage. In more advanced cases, the nail may also become curved or distorted — sometimes referred to as a “ram’s horn nail.”

These nail changes can develop over time and may be associated with repeated pressure or trauma, ageing, reduced mobility, or difficulty maintaining regular nail care.

What Is a Verruca? 📌

A verruca is a wart that develops on the sole of the foot, caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).

It may appear as a small area of hard or rough skin, often with tiny black dots in the centre. Verrucas can sometimes be painful, particularly when walking or standing.

What causes them?
HPV can enter the body through tiny cuts or cracks in the skin. It can spread through direct contact or via contaminated surfaces, particularly in warm, damp communal areas such as swimming pools, changing rooms and showers.

💡 Avoid walking barefoot in communal wet areas, and do not share towels, socks or footwear.
