I bumped into an old friend the other day, and she asked what I’m doing now.

“I’m a birth and postpartum doula,” I said.

There was a little pause.

“A jeweller?”

It’s not the first time that has happened.

So I smiled and explained that I support families during pregnancy, labour, birth and the postnatal period.

That led to more questions:

“What does a doula actually do?”
“Is that the same as a midwife?”
“Are you there for the birth?”

And honestly, I completely understand why people ask.

Unless you have had a doula yourself, it is easy to think the support is mainly a few antenatal sessions, someone there during labour and a little reassurance along the way.

But it is so much more than that.

You do not choose a doula only because of what they do. You choose them because of how you want to feel during one of the biggest and most vulnerable journeys of your life.

💛 It is having someone who takes the time to understand you before labour begins.
💛 Someone you can ask questions without feeling silly, rushed or judged.
💛 Someone who helps you feel calmer when things become intense, reminds you of your strength when doubt creeps in and supports you to understand your options without telling you what to do.
💛 It also means supporting your partner, so they feel confident, included and know how to help.
💛 And having a familiar, trusted person beside you, however your birth journey unfolds.

It is often the support you do not realise you will need until you are right in the middle of it.

So when people ask what a doula actually does...

This is it.

Calm, practical and emotional support so you can feel more informed, confident, cared for and less alone.

And if you are preparing for birth and wondering what doula support could look like for you, you are always welcome to send me a message for a relaxed, no-pressure chat.

Every family's postpartum journey looks different.

For this family, it meant creating space for mum and dad to bond with their newborn, giving their toddler lots of attention, fun and reassurance, and making sure there were nourishing snacks ready to enjoy during those early weeks.

Postpartum support isn't just about the baby. It's about caring for the whole family. 💛

Thank you for trusting me to be part of such a special chapter in your lives.

✨ Well… this was a lovely surprise ✨

I’m so happy to share that I received Highly Commended in the Emerging Businesswoman category at the Network Ireland Wicklow Businesswoman of the Year Awards ✨

If you’d told me 18 months ago that I’d be here, I honestly wouldn’t have believed you.

Back then, Embrace Your Journey was just an idea and a lot of hope. Leaving behind 25+ years in the corporate world to start my own business felt exciting, scary, and occasionally slightly ridiculous.

There have been plenty of wobbles along the way, lots of learning, moments of self-doubt, and many “what am I doing?” conversations with myself… but also so much growth, so many lovely people, and work that feels genuinely meaningful.

Today, I get to support families through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenting and work with organisations to better support parents at work too. And I honestly still pinch myself sometimes that this is my job.

This recognition feels really special because it doesn’t just feel like recognition for me. It feels like recognition for all the families who trusted me to support them through some really big moments in their lives. Thank you for letting me be part of your journey. 🥰

And the biggest thank you to my family. 😍 Thank you for cheering me on, encouraging me to take the leap, sticking with me through all the ups and downs, and believing in me even when I occasionally questioned my own sanity. 😁

This is only the beginning. 🧡

🩸 Today I donated blood for the 10th time 🩸

I still find it amazing that something so simple can make such a big difference. You show up, give a little bit of your time, have a cup of tea and a biscuit afterwards, and somewhere down the line it might really help someone who needs it.

It’s not a huge thing to do, but it can mean everything to the person receiving it.

With World Blood Donor Day coming up this Sunday, maybe this is your little reminder to book an appointment if you can.

And if you’ve been meaning to go back, maybe this is your sign.

Still pinching myself a little… ✨

A little bit surreal (and very exciting!) to share that I’m a finalist in the Businesswomen of the Year Awards.

About 18 months ago, Embrace Your Journey was just an idea in my head — one that felt exciting, scary, and deeply personal all at once. After more than 25 years in the corporate world, stepping into entrepreneurship as a Birth & Postpartum Doula, Parenting Journey Coach, and Workplace Consultant was a HUGE leap into the unknown.

There have definitely been wobbles along the way, plenty of self-doubt, lots of learning, and many “what on earth am I doing?” moments. But there’s also been so much growth, so many lovely connections, and the absolute privilege of supporting amazing families and organisations through some really big life moments.

Looking back now, I’m incredibly grateful that I took the leap and kept going.

A huge thank you to my family, mentors, clients, friends, and the amazing Network Ireland community for all the encouragement and support along the way.

No matter what happens next, I already feel incredibly proud of how far this journey has come. 🧡

There’s something incredible about witnessing new parents step into birth with calm, confidence, and connection. Supporting Kamila and her partner through their very first birth was absolutely beautiful. 🧡

From the very beginning, Kamila and her partner approached everything with openness and curiosity. Watching them prepare together, grow in confidence, and step into birth feeling calm and connected was incredible.

Their birth was gentle, joyful, and full of love. And I’m so grateful I could be there to support them as they welcomed their baby into the world. Moments like these are a reminder of just how powerful preparation, presence, and trust can be.
