When do I actually prescribe oral oestrogen? 💊
A question I get asked a lot, and the honest answer is: it depends.
Every HRT plan is individual. We choose the route of oestrogen based on your symptoms, health risks, BMI and personal preference, there's never a one-size-fits-all approach.
Oral oestrogen works brilliantly for many women. It's effective, convenient and often a great first-line option for younger, healthy women at low cardiovascular risk. It can also help with cholesterol and manage unscheduled bleeding.
My first choice will always be transdermal oestrogen for HRT. I'll usually avoid oral oestrogen if a woman is over 60, has a BMI over 30, has a history of clots, migraines or liver disease, or has any heart health concerns. In these cases, transdermal oestrogen is much safer.
Your hormone story is unique, and your prescription should be too. Evidence-based, personalised prescribing is what we do at Blush Clinic.
