You've poured your perfect soap, added the finishing touches, and now comes the exciting part – cutting your loaf!
But when is the right time to cut?
For Cold Process Soap, the ideal cutting time depends on your recipe and the oils you've used. For example, recipes rich in oils may need several days, or even up to a week. A good rule of thumb is to cut when the soap is firm enough to hold its shape without denting, but still soft enough to slice cleanly without crumbling.
For Melt & Pour Soap, the process is much quicker. Once the soap has completely cooled and hardened, usually within 1–2 hours, it's ready to cut.
If your knife drags or sticks as you cut, your soap is probably still too soft. Leave it in the mould for another 12–24 hours and try again. If the soap cracks or crumbles, it may have become too hard, meaning you should cut a little earlier next time.
