Further to the HANDBRAKE post . Because insurance companies don't care if your trailer brakes lock on or not they may require you to use your handbrake at all times you may want to check with them first. I put up the original post Because many people were asking why their brakes were sticking when they go to take off the Handbrake being left on is the main cause.

Hello Trailer people.
Just a word about HANDBRAKES on Trailers. Handbrake are a friend when trying to hitch up to your vehicle or indeed unhitching, it is a friend when leaving your Trailer parked for a short while perhaps in someone else's yard, and generally speaking it is an important part of the working of your Trailer. .... BUT .... your Handbrake is a FOE if you park up your Trailer in your or someone else's yard for a prolonged period of time with the Handbrake left ON ! this can and often does stick the brakeshoes to the inside of the Hub and even though you let off the Handbrake the brakeshoes remain in the braked position rendering the trailer unmovable or at the very least a wheel or two dragging. So to prevent this from happening remember to park on level ground and securely chock your wheels and leave your hand brake off. Place your Chocks at the front and rear of your wheels so as to stop forward and reverse rolls.

Just before the corona virus came to town, we were asked to remove an old rotten floor from a small Mercedes truck. The flat bed of the truck was 14 feet long by 7 feet wide. We were also asked to fit 'lashing ties' this time as the old floor did not have any and by having them on the inside would mean the sides would not be damaged when strapping items down. The timber floor is T+G teak, 14 foot long by 1" ¼ inch thick (the old floor was ¾ inches thick)

To the trailer towing public out there the picture on the left is showing a badly maintained set of brake shoes which are inside your Hub, note - the " liners " on the Shoes are completely stripped off the Shoes leaving the Trailer without brakes and a hazard to you and other road users.
The picture on the right is of a set of new brake shoes just been fitted to a cleaned backplate and when adjusted properly will leave the Trailer safe and roadworthy.
